According to individuals familiar with events within the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is about to introduce a Muslim-Muslim National Chairman and National Secretary.
The APC had a National Caucus meeting on Wednesday in preparation for today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
It was learned that one of the motions from the caucus meeting recommends Senator Ajibola Basiru, the former spokesperson for the Senate, as the interim National Secretary, and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, as the acting National Chairman.

If authorized, they would take the position of the outgoing Abdullahi Adamu and Lyiola Omisore, respectively.
However, according to sources who talked with Daily Sun on the subject, several NWC members present at the Caucus meeting were dissatisfied with the arrangement because of the religious imbalance in the ruling party’s cabinet.
In addition to criticizing the party’s policies, the irate members also bemoaned the religious imbalance in the party’s political posts, which included a Muslim as Speaker, Vice President, and President, among other positions.
“It is surprising that they could approve Muslim-Muslim for the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party. The implication is that the ruling party is now parading Muslim President, Vice President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.

“I don’t think anything can change but we have to put it on record that the actions of the leaders of the party is insensitive and condemnable. Despite the complaints that trailed the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, the pressure to sacrifice Abdullahi Adamu over religious imbalance, they still went ahead to impose Muslims Chairman and Secretary. It is very unfair,” the aggrieved source noted.
