Clerical flaws in the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Kano governorship ruling, which caused a stir on social media, have been acknowledged by the Court of Appeal.
CTC.The Appeal Court further affirmed that, in spite of the contradictions in the CTC of the ruling, its choice to remove Abba Kabir Yusuf as governor of Kano is lawful.
The governor, who is the case’s appellant, contested the All Progressives Congress (APC), the first respondent,’s victory in the 2023 gubernatorial election.

The NNPP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are ranked third and second, respectively, among the respondents.
The judge affirmed the governor’s appeal and mandated that the APC pay him N1,000,000.00 (one million naira exclusively) in costs.
The judge said: “In the circumstances, I resolve all the issues in favour of the appellant and against the 1st respondent… The sum of N1,000,000.00 (one million naira only) is hereby awarded as costs in favour of the appellant and against the 1st respondent.”
Nonetheless, there were several contradicting claims in the judgment’s CTC, raising questions about the verdict’s legality.
Kano Governorship Appeal Court Ruling Not Clerical Error – Odinkalu
In a statement released Friday night, Umar Mohammed Bangari, the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, acknowledged that the mistakes were administrative in nature and had no bearing on the court’s conclusions or rulings.
He said that the mistakes were small and that the parties could request that the court fix them. He cited Court of Appeal Hand Book Order 23 Rule 4, which grants the court the authority to rectify any clerical error discovered by the court or any of the parties involved.
He emphasised that the court’s ruling remained enforceable and refuted any suggestion to the contrary.
He said: “What happened in the part of the judgment is just a mere clerical error that ought not to draw any issue. The Court is empowered to correct such clerical error and would be done as appropriate.”

A representative for Governor Yusuf’s legal team, meanwhile, informed Daily Trust that they turned down an appeal court request to return the CTC of the ruling that was previously rendered against them.
