On Sunday 4th July 2021, Prof Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate, debunked the statement attributed to him on the recent defections from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Soyinka in a statement released through his spokesman, Abiola Owoaje, charged Nigerians to disregard such statements and treat them as another case of identity theft.
According to the Nobel laureate, he has not made any comment on political parties for years.
The statement reads in part: “Here we go again! Treat as yet another case of identity theft. I have made no statement whatsoever on party defections or indeed on any political party’s fortunes or misfortunes in the past three to four years.”

In another development, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is reportedly plotting to establish a new political party ahead of the 2023 general election.

According to Vanguard, the new party would accommodate aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
