We’ll Not Let Crisis Force Peter Obi To Join Atiku – Labour Party

Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), had declared that Peter Obi would not be permitted to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This claim was made by Arabambi during a Friday interview that Newsmen saw on Channels Television.

He claims that the party is looking for a political solution to its internal problems in order to prevent its presidential candidate for 2023 from collaborating with Atiku Abubakar of the PDP before the 2027 election.

“Politically, we will not allow the crisis to fester for long that we will now allow Mr Peter Obi to join Atiku.

“We knew their plans, that was why we said ‘we need to explore political solution between ourselves,” he said.

The leader of the factional Labour Party also discussed the recent legal battle that the party is facing, in which an FCT High Court banned Julius Abure and two other individuals from representing the party as national officers.

Remember how Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court had barred Abure, Farouk Ibrahim, Clement Ojukwu, and Oluchi Opara from serving as LP national executives in his verdict on an ex parte application on April 5, 2023.

However, the ruling of the lower court prohibiting Julius Abure and two other individuals from presenting themselves as national officers of the Labour Party was overturned by the Court of Appeal in Abuja in March 2024.

Leading a panel of three justices, Justice Hamman Barka declared that Abure’s appeal had merit and was thus granted. According to him, the FCT High Court erred in assuming jurisdiction over the case.

In addition, the court granted Abure and the other appellants in the case a sum of N1 million.

Arabambi responded to the ruling by declaring that all of Abure’s actions between March 2023 and March 2024 were void.

“Since the Court of Appeal just set aside the judgement in March 2024, every other thing done between March 2023 and to 2024 by Julius Abure is a nullity,” he added.

Abayomi Arabambi, the national publicity secretary of the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party (LP), said on Wednesday that their faction no longer considers Peter Obi, the party’s flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election, as their presidential candidate.

This assertion was made by Arabambi during an interview on AIT in response to Obi’s news conference on Bola Tinubu’s academic records.

According to Arabambi, the faction refused to acknowledge Obi since he petitioned the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) without the assistance of a polling unit agent from any of the 176,846 polling units.

He accused the former Anambra State governor of manipulating them to attain an objective that they do not understand.

Arabambi said, “Well I refer to Peter Obi as our former candidate. In the comedy of a press conference he did today, he knew he had filed his appeal before the Supreme Court and the CSU saga is not part of his pleading before the Supreme Court but he seems to engulf himself more in this PDP (sic), what we call ‘Labour Party in PDP’ is what Peter Obi is doing and that is why we on our own refer to him as our former presidential candidate.

“Before now, he has ceased to be our candidate because going to the presidential election petition court without a single agent from the (176,846) polling units is a man who deliberately prepared to use us to achieve an ambition that we don’t understand”

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Obi has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, disputing the presidential tribunal’s decision, which confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25th, 2023 election.

Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Lamidi Apapa-led side of the Labour Party (LP), offered more light on the party’s turmoil on Wednesday.

Arabambi said that the party’s issue began when the Director of the Commissioner of the Oath Department for the Register, Lawal Funmilola, informed them that the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, faked his paperwork.

Arabambi said in an interview with AIT that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Afenifere leader Ayo Adebanjo were aware of the fabrication.

Arabambi went on to accuse Obasanjo of assaulting him in his office after telling him and Adebanjo that a fabrication would not bring them to the party.

He said that the presidential candidate of their party, Peter Obi, and several party personalities were informed of the situation, but that he should wait for Obi to win before the issue was addressed.

Arabambi speaking on the crisis in the party, said, “I have here a letter written by Lawal Funmilola, Director of the Commissioner of the Oath Department for the Registrar. This was what caused the crisis in the Labour Party. Some of our candidates were changed without our knowledge.

“He now presented an affidavit to INEC, and INEC changed their name. We wrote, and the court, I repeat, Lawal Funmilola, Director, Commissioner of the Oath Department, said Abure was involved in forgery, and the court wrote back to us the certified true copy that that document was forged.

“We invited Obi, and he said we should leave Abure. Yes, he said we should leave Abure, and we should allow him to win. Obasanjo knew all of them. Baba Adebanjo, all of them knew.

“I got to say the truth here now. In fact, it’s part of why Obasanjo beat me in his house because I told them that a forger would not lead us to the party, but he said we should allow Obi to win first. We said no; we will not allow him to win.”

In response to purported threats to his life by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) has requested that the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) invite Abayomi Arabambi, the party’s former national publicity secretary.

Recall that Arabambi had claimed that Kennedy Ahanotu, the National Youth Leader of the party, had threatened him on Obi’s orders.

The party, however, said in a joint statement by Umar Farouk, the national secretary, and Ahanotu, the national youth leader, that it would have ignored such unproven and baseless claims.

The statement said, “For the benefit of some members of the public, especially the Nigerian Youths who do not know the character called Arabambi, a serial blackmailer who will stop at nothing to call out our leader at any given time we see such baseless attempt to defame our principal and that of our National Youth Leader as a last kick of a dying horse.”

The party claimed that Arabambi was expelled because of his reputation for spreading misinformation, propaganda, and dishonesty.

Arabambi recently termed noble Nigerians who felt that justice must win the 2023 presidential election “Obi-idiots,” LP noted.

The party said: “Such description of hardworking Nigerian youths is an invitation to self-destruct. We have said time without number that the Peter Obi presidency is a Nigerian project.

“We are, however, challenging Arabambi to make public the said conversation he had with our national youth leader to prove the allegation of threat to life from our leaders.

“We want to restate that neither Obi nor any other person from Labour Party has or will ever contemplate to influence or stimulate any such response to Apapa from Nigerians who already knew that Apapa, Arabambi, and their cohorts have been heavily compromised to thwart the proceedings in the Tribunal.

“Peter Obi is known as a peace-loving man who never condones violence. As a governor of Anambra State, it is on record that his tenure witnessed the most peaceful era in that state. He is renowned to be the only governor in Nigeria who moved around without a bulletproof car. He ensured that brigandry, violence, or any form of political violence ceased in the state.”

Arabambi Criticises Oshuntokun’s Selection As LP PCC DG

Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the former acting publicity secretary of the Labour Party, criticised the selection of Mr. Akin Oshuntokun as the director general of the Peter Obi/Ahmed Datti Presidential Campaign Council on Tuesday.

Oshuntokun, according to Arabambi, cannot be trusted with such a position due to a number of reasons, including split loyalties, willful deception, and political infringement, according to a statement released in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

He claims that the evidence supports Oshuntokun’s status as the Zenith Labour Party’s (ZLP) senatorial candidate for the Ekiti Central Senatorial district. The ZLP’s presidential candidate is Bar Dan Nwayanwu, who also serves as the party’s national chairman.

“In the list of candidates just cleared by INEC for the National Assembly elections, Akin Oshuntokun’s name and particulars were there, and this shows that he is a member of ZLP and also its National Assembly candidate.

“From available record, ZLP has its own Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates. So how then will he be leading our party campaign from another party”.

“We are also sure that Oshuntokun has not resigned from ZLP, neither has he secured a Court order from a competent Court of jurisdiction to delete his name from INEC list as the 90days time allowed for substitution of candidates by political parties has lapsed”, Arabambi said.

“He is now presently the Ekiti Central Senatorial candidate of Zenith Labour party, meaning that he is contesting against Peter Obi and Labour party on February 25th 2023. So, which interest will he be serving at the Presidential Campaign Council”.

“The costly mistake made by LP to have picked Oshuntokun among arrays of eminently qualified and dedicated members of the party may have a devastating effects on the victory of our candidate, His Excellency, Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti if we fail to act now”

Dr Arabambi said further,
“infact it’s a criminal infraction by Osuntokun to have lied to Labour Party when in actual fact he is a Zenith Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central in Ekiti State for the forthcoming February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections, where he, Osuntokun will be a contestants, Bar Dan Nwayanwu who happen to he National Chairman of Zenith Labour party will be contesting as Zenith Labour Party Presidential candidate against Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate. Where then lies his interest in this criminal contradiction”.

“For some of us that is neck deep in ensuring that we have a new Nigeria under the headship of Peter Obi as the President, we will not have option but seek legal means to remove Oshuntokun as our campaign DG if he fails to throw in the towel within four days”.

According to Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, more Nigerians are clamoring to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the elections in 2023 because they want to support Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency.

He asserted that Peter Obi is supported by more over 50% of newly registered voters.

Arabambi noted that Nigerians, especially the country’s youth, have developed a renewed interest in the election process as a result of the Labour Party (LP) candidate’s presidential ambition.

He made the declaration during a recent interview with Arise TV, which Anaedoonline.ng was watching.

According to him, “in the last election, half of the registered voters were docile. Today, we have 12 million registered voters, of which about 8 million of them are youths.

“I am telling you we have over 10 million that registered because of the new order in Nigeria. Everything pointed to the Obidient group, to which I am one of them.

“As we speak, all of us in Nigeria have been kidnapped. And the ticket that can free us from the captivity is the Peter Obi/Datti Baba-Ahmed mandate.”
