Bello Ismaila, 32, was charged by the police on Monday at the Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for receiving stolen cattle.
According to Johnson Okunade, the police prosecutor, the defendant is accused of receiving two stolen cattle from Abdulkadril Buba at Ogotun Ekiti at 5 p.m. on May 21.
Okunade asked the court to postpone the case so he could review the case file and gather his witnesses. He said the offense violated Section 343(1) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
The defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the accusation brought against him, and his attorney, Toyin Oluwole, appealed with the court to release his client on bond with a pledge not to escape.
The Chief Magistrate, A.O Adeosun, in his ruling, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till June 13 for hearing.
This was as two teenagers, Abdullahi and Bashiru, were also arraigned before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged stealing and unlawful entry.

The police prosecutor, Sodiq Adeniyi, alleged in court that the defendants committed the offence on June 3 around 12noon at Lane 9, Ifesowapo Area, Bovas Junction in Ado Ekiti.
“The defendants stole drinkers, feeders, galvanised net and feeding trays valued at N100,000 belonging to one Falade-Daf Tayo,” Adeniyi said.
He alleged that the defendants unlawfully entered the house of the complainant by jumping the fence into the compound, saying, “The offences contravened Sections 302(1a) and 65 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021”.
The prosecutor sought an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
But the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them as their counsel, Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant them bail, with assurances that they would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Dolapo Babalogbon, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case till August 2.
