The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stated on Sunday that some of its election officials were kidnapped in Bayelsa State’s Brass Local Government Area.
This accusation was made by the electoral body in a statement issued on X.
It reads, “The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage.”

INEC condemned the action as “detrimental to credible elections” and called on security agencies including the police to swing to action and rescue the electoral officers.
The commission further stated, “We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release.”
Anaedoonline.ng previously reported that certain commissioners and lawmakers in the state protested on Sunday over alleged result tampering as the collation of results for the November 11, 2023 election began.
Protesters claimed that elections were not held in the state’s Nembe region.
