In a temple in the Thai province of Kanchanaburi, a sex-deprived Buddhist monk named Phra Oat attempted to chop off his penis with a kitchen knife while wearing a “serene smile.”
The horrific episode happened on January 1st, 2023, but Oat was saved by his fellow monks before things became worse, according to the Daily Star.
Oat slashed through his genitalia and sprayed blood all over a temple cell before being transported to the hospital. He appeared to be impervious to the agony.

The 27-year-old stunned his fellow monks on January 1 at a monastery in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province when he cut through his member in front of them, according to Daily Star.
The other monks yelled for help and pulled the blade out of his hands before he could further injure himself.
He was taken to the Makarak Hospital for treatment, where doctors were able to suture the organ back together because the member had only been partially severed.
Speaking in a video, Oat said: “I’m still feeling dizzy. There’s no reason behind it, it just happened.”
“I don’t have depression, I don’t use drugs and I don’t have problems at home. My hands just moved and started with the cutting.”
Oat was ordained in the Sisaket region and had recently been displaying signs of depression, according to Oat’s coworkers who responded to the incident.

The monk had been forbidden from seeing women or engaging in any sexual activity, just like everyone else in his order.
He had barricaded himself in his room on January 1 and resisted out to go about his monastic responsibilities.
Oat was found to be confused and unable to provide a clear response when officials later showed up to question him after he was released from the hospital.
Oat’s temple has agreed that after his recovery, he should be sent back to his hometown.
The Sisaket Provincial Buddhist Bureau will work with the Kanchanaburi Buddhist Office to make arrangements for his care, according to the latter.
