Today, we are going to be comparing two great cities in Nigeria, the city of Calabar, capital of Cross River state South South Nigeria and the Abeokuta city, the capital of Ogun state South West Nigeria.
These two cities are ancient cities with great histories.
Calabar – Cross River State
Calabar, the present capital of Cross River state was the former federal capital territory of Nigeria during the early Colonial era in the 19th century. It’s a port city in southern Nigeria bothering the Republic of Cameroon.
It’s a tourist destination of Nigeria.

beokuta – Ogun state
Abeokuta is the capital of Ogun state South West Nigeria. It’s the gate way state.
The city was named after a rock which the early inhabitants of town used to take refuge during a fight with neighbouring towns.
They are known to be never-defeated in war during those days due to the presence of the heavy rock. Abeokuta houses the popular Olumo Rock.
