A Federal High Court in Kano has set a fresh date for the start of proceedings into former Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje’s violation of fundamental human rights in the issue of alleged dollar stockpiling in a viral video.
The court has set July 21, 2023, as the date for the start of the hearing on Ganduje’s action against the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission and seven others for his alleged involvement in the dollar video clips.
Ganduje had earlier won an interim ex parte injunction prohibiting the state anti-graft agency, the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, and five other respondents from arresting him in relation to the matter.

The court issued a restraining order against the anti-graft agency, police, DSS, and other respondents harassing, intimidating, or arresting Ganduje, his family members, and all his former appointees in suit number FHC/KN/CS/195/2023, dated July 7, 2023, and signed by Imoh Bassey, the court’s registrar.
During the Friday hearing, Ganduje’s counsel, B. Hemba Esq., advised Justice A. M. Liman that the party was ready to proceed with the originating petition because all parties involved had been served.
However, Usman Umar Fari, counsel for the Kano State Anti-Corruption Agency, informed the court that he was not prepared to proceed with the case because he received his notice on July 11, 2023.
The anti-corruption agency’s counsel asked an adjournment, claiming that he was still within the five-day window allowed by law to file his counter-affidavit.
Similarly, Isiaya B. Bulus, lawyer for the Department of State Services (DSS), requested an adjournment so that he could prepare a reply.

The Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, as well as the Civil Defence and Security Corps, were all notably absent.
Although the Kano State Government’s attorney and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, K. A. Hashim, expressed willingness to proceed with the matter, all parties did not object to the case being adjourned to a later date.
