To complement the efforts of the government in the fight against Covid-19, a group known as 100 IGBO Doctors has donated medical equipment worth millions of Naira to the public health institutions in Igboland.
According to the President of 100 Igbos USA, Ejikeme O Obasi, the 100 Igbos organization is a partnership consisting of men and women of integrity, investing their time, talent and resources to provide impartial assistance and support for Ndigbo in Nigeria and beyond.
He revealed that the group in recognizing that the coronavirus has become a global pandemic decided to engage local healthcare professionals in the Southeast zone to develop a regional response that helps control the pandemic in the zone.
Presenting the equipment to all Tertiary Institutions in the South-East, on behalf of group, Professor S. N. C. Anyanwu said that the group believes that medical equipment will shore up the availability of some equipment in tertiary medical institutions in Igboland, for the protection of medical workers.
He said that hospital facilities in most states in the southeast are already over-stretched, obsolete or inadequate, which is already putting medical worker under pressure.
Urging the management of different tertiary hospitals to make judicious use of the items, he pleaded with medical workers to exhibit both compassion and resolve in ensuring that as many lives as possible are saved in the southeast.
Commending the gesture, the Chairman of Medical Advisory Committee, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Dr Ugboaja Joe, said that the medical supplies will ensure that medical workers are well protected as the fight against Covid-19, intensifies.
He praised the group for not only thinking home but also recognizing the efforts of their colleagues here in Nigeria towards the fight to contain the spread of coronavirus.
He, however, called on individuals and corporate organizations to emulate 100 IGBO Doctors, noting that the welfare and health of medical workers should not be played with.
Items donated include protective gowns, N-95 Masks, KN- 95 Masks, Protective Goggles, Protective Gloves, Pulse Oximeter, shoe cover and other medical materials.
