Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital Communications, responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case attempting to invalidate Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as candidates for the APC’s presidential and vice presidential nominations.
According to Newsmen, Shettima was accused of receiving a second nomination for vice president from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Kashim Shettima.
Shettima’s selection as Tinubu’s running mate, according to the PDP, violated the terms of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act of 2022.
BREAKING: Supreme Court Dismisses PDP Suit Against Tinubu, Shettima
Shettima’s candidacy to run for vice president and the Borno central senate seat at the same time, according to the opposition party, was illegal.
However, the supreme court’s five-member bench stated in its decision on Friday that the PDP lacked the authority to file the lawsuit and subsequently dismissed the petition.
Ahmad responded to the news by writing on his Twitter page that it was now time to concentrate on the inauguration on May 29 and the governance that would follow.
He wrote: “The Supreme Court has dismissed the suit seeking the disqualification of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Time to focus fully on May 29th and governance afterwards.”
