Sen. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a former federal lawmaker and Labour Party vice presidential candidate in the previous election, claimed that honouring President Bola Tinubu wouldn’t stop him from calling the outgoing governor of Lagos State a drug dealer.

Shortly after accompanying Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the previous election, to a global press conference in Abuja, Datti Baba-Ahmed spoke in an interview with Arise TV.

Many years ago, there were reports that connected the president to drug-related activities; however, the Supreme Court has refrained from pronouncing on such cases.

“Showing Tinubu respect does not mean I will not call him a drug dealer,” he stated.

He asserted that Nigerians must reclaim their country while stressing that they have the right to do so.

“Remove the guns from the hands of Nigerians and redirect them against the enemies of Nigeria; Nigeria must reclaim the country!

“Sovereignty and power belong to the people! Democracy is the right of those who can practice it.”

UPDATE: NDLEA Extends Application Deadline For Recruitment Exercise

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have launched fresh raids in Nasarawa, Benue and Ondo states where no fewer than 43 dealers and consumers of illicit substances were arrested and 137.55 kilograms of assorted drugs recovered during the ‘offensive action’.

In Nasarawa state, NDLEA operatives backed by a detachment of soldiers from 177 battalions of the Nigerian Army, Keffi, raided notorious drug joints located in Kara Masaka, Ruwa Ruwa Uke, Abattoir at the border with FCT, Filing Bala, Masaka U-Turn, and others for two consecutive days; 5th and 6th August 2021.

During the raids, at least 41 suspects were arrested and assorted drugs such as cocaine, cannabis Sativa, cough syrup with codeine, Rohypnol, and tramadol with a total weight of 65.250kg were recovered from them.

Cannabis plants planted by the drug dealers in the adjoining bushes were destroyed while all the stalls in the drug markets were dismantled and set ablaze.

In the same vein, operatives of the Ondo state command of the Agency in the early hours of Monday, 9th August 2021 raided Odopetu area of Akure in Akure South local government area of the state capital, where a 44-year-old Mrs. Folake Ademola was arrested while her husband escaped arrest.

Recovered from their home include 65.400kg of cannabis Sativa; skunk 500grams; loud- 16grams; Colorado- 34grams, bringing the total of drugs seized from them to 65.950 kilograms.

In Benue state, a 34-year-old Iornum Emmanuel was arrested at the NDLEA Aliade checkpoint on Sunday 8th August 2021 with different quantities of assorted illicit drugs, which include; tramadol -500grams; diazepam- 1.5kg and exol 5- 7.9kg.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has commended the commanders, officers, and men of the Nasarawa, Ondo, and Benue state commands for their commitment to the goal of ridding the country of the menace of drug abuse and trafficking.

He charged them and their colleagues in other commands to continue on the offensive until the last drug cartel in Nigeria is dismantled.

On Tuesday 13th July 2021, Nnamuka Uchenna, An alleged drug supplier to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), have been arrested by the Imo Police Command.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the state Police Spokesman, Michael Abattam, said Uchenna along with one Chinedu Ukaegbulam, and Augustine Ete were arrested on July 8 at his residence at Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesman stated that substances suspected to be cocaine valued at N150 million, and a measuring scale were recovered after a search.

Abattam added that the suspects were apprehended following diligent intelligence gathering that led to the arrest of one Obinna Ohaji who disguised as a driver in search of passengers in a Nissan Caravan bus.

He noted that a large quantity of cocaine had been recovered from the bus upon a search.

The driver after being interrogated by the police was said to have confessed that the cocaine was given to him to deliver to an unknown lady at Elele in Rivers State.

He was also said to have then led the police to the border between Imo and Rivers state where the receiver, a 17-year-old girl, who confessed to being the group’s supplier in Rivers, was arrested.

Abattam said the suspects were possibly the ones who distribute drugs to various terror camps in the state.

The spokesman noted that investigation is ongoing to trace the source of the hard drugs into the state and also to arrest other members of the syndicate in hiding.

Operatives at the Kuje Medium Security Prison in Abuja have apprehended one Mr Clement Jacob of Deidei village in Abuja for attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be Indian hemp into the prison facility.

Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Command of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Humphrey Chukwuedo in a statement made available to the newsmen yesterday said “the substance which was hidden in a sandal, was expected to be delivered to one Emeka Onyejikachi, an inmate of Kuje prison who is in custody for a case of possession of hard drugs”.

Luck, however ran out on Jacob when he exchanged his sandals with that of the inmates after his session of prison visits.

“Inspector Hussain Ibrahim, the officer in charge of the visitation area noticed the quick exchange of footwear and requested for another search after the visiting session was over.

“During the search, inspector Hussain carefully tore open the foot of the sandals thereby exposing the illegal transaction”, the statement explained.

Upon interrogation, Jacob, who feigned ignorance said one Mrs Emeka had called him to assist her in paying Mr Emeka a visit. He was also instructed to exchange his footwear with the inmate before leaving the premises.

“The Controller of Prisons FCT command, Mustapha Illyasu Atta commended the alertness of the officer and further wish to remind members of the public and family members of inmates of their responsibility in ensuring that the inmates are properly reformed and rehabilitated.

“The Controller of Prisons pledged the commitment of the officers and men of the Command to rid Prisons in the command of illicit transactions that are capable of compromising security and discipline in the Service”, the statement added.
