Atiku Abubakar Reacts to President Tinubu’s Slip at Democracy Day Celebration

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded to a viral video showing President Bola Tinubu slipping while boarding the presidential parade vehicle at Eagles Square in Abuja. The incident occurred shortly after Tinubu arrived at the venue for the 2024 Democracy Day celebration.

Anaedoonline reports that as President Tinubu approached the vehicle, he momentarily lost his footing but quickly regained his balance with the assistance of his security aides and continued with the proceedings.

Atiku shared the trending video on X.com, expressing his sympathy. “I sincerely sympathize with President Bola Tinubu, #officialABAT, over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day. I do hope that all is well with him,” Atiku wrote.

The video has sparked varied reactions on social media. While some netizens mocked the President, others downplayed the incident, noting that Tinubu continued with the ceremonial rounds without further issues.

On Tuesday evening, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, arrived at the party’s convention site, causing a ruckus.

Tinubu, who is running for the APC presidential nomination in 2023, was greeted with a barrage of Jagaban chants from the delegates during the convention.

As he made his way into the venue, the security staff faced a difficult challenge in sheltering him from the throngs of fans who had gathered to cheer him on.

As his security and protocol team cleared the way to take him to his seat, the former Lagos State Governor waved to the mob of fans.

Senator Kabiru Gaya of Kano, a high-ranking member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), recently revealed that the party’s presidential hopefuls list has been trimmed to two.

He stated this on Tuesday, ahead of the start of delegate voting at the APC presidential primary in Abuja, which would be held at Eagle Square.

Gaya disclosed the identities of the two remaining hopefuls for the APC ticket during an interview with Channels TV at the primary site. They are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Also, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential hopefuls have not given up hope of delivering a consensus candidate.

Sanwo-Olu said the contenders are extremely talented and believe in their respective talents to earn the APC ticket and win the 2023 presidential election for the party, but that discussions are still ongoing among them on the possibility of a consensus candidate emerging.

He indicated that certain announcements may still be made on the conference grounds that would affect a lot of things, and that the scenario is “never say never.”

President Muhammadu Buhari, who also serves as the All Progressives Congress’s National Leader, has arrived at Eagle Square, signaling the start of the governing party’s presidential primary in Abuja.

President Buhari arrived at the location shortly after his Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who is also running for president, and other presidential hopefuls.

The Guards Brigade led the President into the governing party’s special convention with a rousing ensemble, following which the presidential primary began.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the APC’s National Chairman, as well as members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and other party officials, welcomed the president to the primary.

Jonathan, who is the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Special Envoy for Mali and also Chairman of Ecowas Council of the Wise will be in Kenya for 3 days. The retreat is themed: “Improved Co-ordination and Harmonization for Impactful Mediation”.

Our correspondent also confirmed Jonathan’s trip from his media aide, Mr. Ike Abonyi.

The PDP National Convention is holding today at the Eagles’ Square, Abuja.

Presidential campaign Posters and banners of Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, his Bauchi State Counterpart, Bala Mohammed, former governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Special Assistant to past President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. Doyin Okupe have also been displayed in and around the venue.

Posters of Senator Shehu Sani for Governor of Kaduna State, among others have also flooded the venue of the Convention.

Delegates are seated in their various state pavilions with dignitaries leading their delegates.

The Convention took off proper at 1.05pm with the National Anthem; opening prayer at 1.06 by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
