Prof. Anthony Ani is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial Bye-Election, and David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has endorsed him.
Ani’s candidature was also supported by Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State.
In addition to endorsing the idea in a personally delivered speech, Umahi cautioned that Ebonyi State is firmly aligned with the APC.
As the state’s political head, the Governor has the authority to determine the course of action, so the Minister cautioned the populace not to defy his decisions.

By making this announcement, Umahi has decided not to back his younger brother Austin Umahi, who had already announced his intention to run for the Senate seat in Ebonyi South.
Austin’s announcement follows the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement that some state and federal seats would be filled by rerun elections in February 2024.
With President Bola Tinubu appointing David Umahi as minister of works, the Ebonyi South Senatorial District seat became vacant.
Additionally, the seats of David Umahi and Ibrahim Geidam in the upper legislative body had been declared vacant by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

After their appointments as ministers of works and police affairs, respectively, the Senate President made the decision.
While Umahi represented Ebonyi South, Geidam represented Yobe East.
