Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has criticized Edwin Clark, the head of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), and elder statesman Olusegun Obasanjo for publicly endorsing Peter Obi for the 2023 elections.
According to Kwankwaso, it is improper for anyone, even one who is regarded as a statesman, to endorse candidates in advance of Nigeria’s presidential election on February 25.
This claim was made on Wednesday in the capital of Edo State, Benin City, by the former governor of Kano State.

He said, “I want to advise our leaders: they should stop disgracing themselves. We have so much respect for them. If you say you don’t like me, no problem.”
Governor Godwin Obaseki welcomed Kwankwaso at the Government House in advance of the start of his presidential campaign in the state.
The NNPP presidential candidate, who said that the electorate was more smarter now, argued that these endorsements were based on religious and ethnic emotions and had no bearing on them.
Kwankwaso said, “Some of the people supporting and endorsing Mr A or Mr B, I think it is a big mistake. These are leaders I respect. There is a time in your life when you become real statesman, not a politician.
“I can tell you also that any candidate or party that comes out with the face of ethnicity or the issue of religion, that party, that candidate, I can assure you, has failed that election before it starts.”

Recall that Obasanjo and Clark both endorsed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), in the past three days.
Evidently, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party have responded to Obi’s endorsement (PDP).
