In an effort to keep former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello from leaving the nation, the federal government put him on a watchlist on Thursday.
On April 18, 2024, the Nigerian Immigration Service sent out a circular to the police and the Department of State Services directing them to arrest the former governor. The circular was signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, on behalf of Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap.
This came about when Bello was placed under arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly laundering N80.2 billion in cash. The news was posted on the EFCC’s official Facebook page on Wednesday after they were unable to apprehend him in Abuja.

In addition, Abdulwahab Mohammed (SAN) and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, disagreed on Thursday over the EFCC’s botched attempt to detain Bello.
The NIS circular included information about the previous governor, including name, nationality, and passport number (B50083321).
“I am directed to inform you that the above-named individual has been placed on the watch list,” Nanadap said.
