Liborous Oshoma, a Nigerian lawyer, attacked President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Ola Olukoyede as chairman of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday.
Anaedoonline.ng previously revealed that President Tinubu nominated Olukoyede as the head of the anti-graft agency to replace suspended chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The news was announced on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale in a statement.
Following his appointment, questions have been raised about Olukoyede’s qualifications for the position of EFCC Chairman.
PDP National Chairman, Others Approved Tinubu’s Ministerial Appointment Given To Me – Wike
In an interview with Arise TV, Oshoma stated that President Tinubu’s administration wishes to turn the law on its head by appointing the EFCC chairman.
He went on to say that Tinubu’s administration was aware of the myriad difficulties confronting the country while in opposition, but had failed to address them once in power.
Following the recent appointment, Oshoma urged the federal government to make the required reforms and apologised to Nigerians.
The lawyer said, “Unfortunately for me, this government knew everything that was wrong with Nigeria when they were in opposition, and they told us how Nigeria would work better if given the opportunity, but unfortunately, they’re in government today, and they’re even doing worse.
Presidency React On Accusation of Olukoyede Not Being Qualified As EFCC Chairman
“Nobody, none of them, is talking about all the ideals they promoted: fiscal federalism, unbundling of the country, amendment of the electoral act to remove the powers of presumption of regularities in favour of INEC, and all of these things, and yet you want to make a simple appointment, an appointment as simple as the EFCC chairman, you still want to stand law on its head, and then somebody, rather than apologise to Nigerians and say, We didn’t look at it this way, we’re sorry, we’ll re-do this, you’re trying to force it down the throat of Nigerians and then try to stand law on its head.”
