WE’LL APPLY MOBILE COURT SITTINGS ON MOTORISTS -FRSC
The Edo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has informed that the command will aply mobile court sittings on motorists this Ember month
The Sector Commander, Mr. Anthony Oko, while declaring the campaign titled “Safe Driving, Safe Arrival,” decried the poor driving culture in the state.
Oko said that the command had been strategically repositioned and equipped to ensure success of the theme of this year’s campaign.
He said that mobile court sittings would be applied massively just as public enlightenment education would be intensified to ensure safe driving.
He stressed that as the hustle and bustle geared up in the coming weeks coupled with climatic conditions, all motorists should be guided by the desire to arrive safely in 2019.
The sector commander said that the period was usually characterised by increased vehicular, goods and human movement, resulting in more huge demands on the limited space on roads.
”This often leads to throwing safe practices associated with safe driving away and the ultimate price is usually unpleasant,” he said.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal, FRSC, said that “ember months” were festive periods during which some people erroneously believed evil forces appeared on the roads to cause crashes.
Oyeyemi, represented by Kehinde Adeleye, Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS 5 which comprises Edo, Delta and Anambra, urged Nigerians to drop such belief.
He noted that the corps had resolved to use the media and public enlightenment to dispel such erroneous belief and proffer a way forward.
According to him it was the struggle on the part of most people to meet their loved ones during the yuletide that was responsible for road mishaps.
The corps marshal said road mishaps were also caused by commercial drivers’ quest to make more trips and profits in preparation for the yuletide.
Oyeyemi said that the operational strategy lined up for the 2018 “ember months” campaign was to enforce safe driving to save lives hence the theme for the campaign.
He said that the corps would be strict on its vision acuity test to ensure that drivers on the road did not have defective eye sights.
