BREAKING: PETROL EXPLOSION ROCKS AWKA; 10 CONFIRMED DEAD (PHOTOS & VIDEO)
At least, ten persons have been confirmed dead, and scores of others sustained various degrees of injuries in a petrol explosion that rock Awka, the capital city of Anambra State.
The explosion occurred around 8.40pm on Saturday, February 9, at the Amawbia Roundabout, close to the State CID in Awka.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, who broke the news on Police/ Media Forum, said the tanker was negotiating a bend at the roundabout when it fell and ignited wild fire, and forcing petty traders and other people within the area to scamper for safety.
Though the police spokesman could not immediately ascertain the number of casualties, he said that many houses, shops and vehicles were burnt completely, even as the place was quickly condoned by police to stop the situation from worsening; while fire fighters were being expected to manage the situation.
