In a significant development, a rescue operation conducted by the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin-Daji, has successfully freed six female students from Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State. These students had been abducted in the early hours of Friday from their off-campus hostels at Sabon-Gida, located just a short distance from the university.
The operation, which led to the students’ rescue, was confirmed by Captain Ibrahim Yahaya, the Force Information Officer for Operation Hadarin-Daji. After the abduction, the assailants had taken the students, primarily females, into the forest. However, the security forces tracked them down and initiated a rescue operation.
During the operation, the troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force’s air component, engaged the abductors in a firefight. This intense effort resulted in the successful rescue of six of the abducted students. Notably, the ongoing rescue mission has also led to the neutralization of several bandits involved in the abduction.

Captain Yahaya further revealed that the security forces managed to recover significant items from the terrorists, including an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, four motorcycles, and a communication device.
It is important to note that the students had previously expressed their concerns about the frequent abductions of their fellow schoolmates residing in Sabon-Gida and Damba communities. These communities are located near the main campus of the university, approximately 20 kilometers from Gusau, the state capital.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the school authorities regarding this incident have so far been unsuccessful.
