A friend of the deceased, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, announced the businessman’s death on Facebook.
According to him, the late Ofoma’s driver had taken a detour to another road because of trailer drivers’ protests blocking the Onitsha-Owerri highway due to the presence of police checkpoints around the Ihiala axis and the deaths that had resulted as a result of it when the gunmen struck, killing him on the spot.
“Chief Gab Ofoma was killed on Sunday,” one eyewitness stated. His offence was most likely that he was travelling in an SUV and appeared to be a large man.
“There have been a lot of people killed on that route by these criminals who kill anyone in a huge automobile who seems like a big man.”
