The endorsement of senior statesman Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu for the office of President-General by a group of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Chidi Ibeh, has been called “laughable.”
This was said by Ibeh, a former Imo Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on Friday while speaking to reporters in Owerri.
He contended that since he had been legitimately elected on January 9, 2021, and had been awarded a Certificate of Return by Richard Ozobu, the chairman of the electoral body, he should continue to serve as President-General until a court with appropriate jurisdiction rules otherwise.

He claims that a case involving the proper direction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo between him and the late Prof. George Obiozor, the organization’s former president-general, is still pending before a Federal High Court in Abuja, waiting for the determination of the court.
He issued a warning to people supporting Iwuanyanwu for the job, asking them to refrain from interfering in what he called a “sub-judicial” affair and to let the court determine who the organization’s proper leader should be.
“The office of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is not vacant. I remain the authentic occupant of that office unless otherwise decided by a court of competent jurisdiction.
“As we speak, the matter, Chidi Ibe versus Prof. George Obiozor (now late) is still pending and we are asking the court to determine who the rightful President-General is,” he said.

Ibeh stated that the Imo East senatorial district had been denied the position of governor for a very long time and that it was now time to produce a governor in the next governorship race in Imo.
He asked Governor Hope Uzodimma to renounce the support of his adoring fans and honorably withdraw from the campaign for equity.
“Imo West senatorial district has produced two former governors, Chief Achike Udenwa and Sen. Rochas Okorocha and now there’s a third, Sen. Hope Uzodimma.
“While Imo North district produced Chief Ikedi Ohakim who was governor for four years, Imo East produced Chief Emeka Ihedioha who governed for only seven months.

“It is, therefore, imperative, in the interest of justice and equity, for the next Imo governor to come from Imo East senatorial district,” he said.
