Gospel singers who demand outrageous payments to play in churches have come under fire from Rev. Fr. Chinenye Oluoma, a priest in the Abuja Archdiocese of the Catholic Church.
The clergyman remarked that religion had become too pricey during a recent sermon.
Oluoma used Mercy Chinwo as an example, saying that if he were to call her to perform, she might charge as much as 10 million naira. In that case, he would need to raise the money from his church’s members in order to pay her.

Although he is not against compensating gospel pastors, he said that they shouldn’t demand excessive amounts.
His words; “We have made religious worship expensive. If I have to bring Mercy Chinwo to come here and sing, how much will I pay? She might charge 10 million naira. Then I will have to collect the money from church members to pay her.
“These are the tragedies we have brought into the church; an artiste will come to the church to minister for 10 million or 5 million, that’s much. I’m not against paying her, you must pay her because you invited her”.
