The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has dismissed as speculative claims any thoughts he may have had about stepping down as head of the People’s Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council.
The governor was reportedly considering resigning from his role as PCC chairman due to the non-release of cash, according to a claim extensively circulated on certain national and internet media outlets.
According to the report, the governor expressed his frustration with the PDP presidential candidate’s unwillingness to disburse funding for the state campaign in private conversations with some of his close friends.
“At the moment our governor had said he would not be spending a dime of the state funds in the presidential campaign because we don’t have more than enough resources for our national and state House of Assemblies campaigns.
He has said, “he would rather resign than appear incompetent” the source quoted gov Emmanuel.
But reacting to the publications in a statement, on Wednesday, by the Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Borono Bassey, the governor said his position as PCC chair is a patriotic duty he owes to Nigerians who are anxiously awaiting for the incoming PDP administration to rescue them from the maladministration left by the APC.
