Mazi Anayo Chukwu, Special Assistant on New Media to Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has claimed that his boss used his personal money to work for the state.
According to him, Okorocha did so to cushion the effects of low allocation from the Federal Government.
Chukwu, who spoke to newsmen Owerri yesterday said, in spite of the petitions submitted to some anti-graft agencies seeking his probe for alleged fraud, he had no skeleton in his cupboard.

He noted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should focus attention on states with higher federal allocations.
The governor’s aide said Nigerians owe his principal some praise for using the state’s meagre resources to achieve a lot in the last eight years for the state.
He added that, if proper financial sheets were balanced, it will surprise many that he used his personal resources to work for the state.

He said, “Governor Rochas Okorocha is not afraid and can never be. Despite the little resources the state gets as federal allocation, the governor has achieved a lot.
“The EFCC and the security agencies should rather commend Okorocha for even investing his personal resources in the development of the state. The state gets so little in terms of federal allocation.
“The EFCC should rather beam its searchlight on those states that get huge amounts of money from the Federal Government. Governor Okorocha is a prudent man and has done well and should be commended.”

Speaking also, the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Paschal Nnadi, said the commissioning of the court complex would go a long way to reduce the current suffocating situation of insufficient court facilities.

This was disclosed yesterday after the inaugural meeting of the Joint Transition Committee comprising representatives of the outgoing and incoming government held at Government House, Owerri, the Imo state capital.

The committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mark Uchendu, for the incumbent government, and Chris Okewuluonu, for the incoming government, assured that they would strategize and map out steps towards a successful transition of power in the state.
They noted that their assignment was for the overall interest of the state, saying they would serve with diligence, transparency, and fairness in order to achieve the desired results.
At the meeting, the committee set up a 10-man sub-committee that would further meet, brainstorm and come up with a blueprint before Monday, May 6, that would aid the work of the joint committee.
The sub-committee, which has former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chuka Odom and former Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, (FMC), Owerri, Angela Uwakwem, among others, as members were charged to map out a comprehensive programme for the handover ceremony.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Uchendu disclosed that “from now to May 29, we will be meeting from time to time to iron out grey areas, sort out issues and agree on what to do on the handover day.”

“We want to pledge on behalf of the incoming government that we shall do the needful. 2019 ELECTION: GOV. OKOROCHA USING HAUSA MEN TO THUMB-PRINT BALLOT PAPPERS IN HIS HOUSE
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has been accused of engaging young Hausa men for the thumb-printing of ballot papers ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
This allegation came from Osita Izunaso, who is the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA for Imo West senatorial district, the same district being contested by Governor Okorocha on the All Progressives Congress, APC, platform.
Izunaso made the allegation through his legal adviser, Prince Orji Nwafor-Orizu, yesterday at a press conference, in Owerri.
According to Nwafor-Orizu, his client, being a law abiding citizen, has decided to alert the general public on the alleged ongoing thumb-printing of ballot papers, at the Spibat Residence of Governor Okorocha, who is also the senatorial candidate of the APC in the election.
He said that the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of Imo State, the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have all been notified of the incident.
He added, “We have evidence from one of the security guards, who is an Hausa man, who has been away since last Saturday, and later called to tell his boss, who is a member of our campaign team that they were at Spibat, where they have been paid to thumb-print ballot papers and that is still ongoing as we speak.
“We have already written to the security agencies and to Imo REC on this matter.”
However, in a swift reaction, Okorocha described the allegation as frivolous.
He said Izunaso is not only a frustrated man, but one of the most unpopular and colourless politicians in the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said, “Rochas Okorocha won elections in 2011 and 2015, respectively, through the ballot papers. Osita Izunaso is one of the most unpopular and colourless politicians in the State.
“And he is not an attractive politician to any voter in the State. Governor Okorocha has campaigned in the 12 local governments of Orlu zone.
“Ditto, in all the zones and the state in general for President Muhammadu Buhari and other candidates of APC, but Izunaso has never campaigned anywhere.”
