President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigerians are not the only ones facing poverty in the world. While admitting that there are poverty and suffering in the land, Tinubu said the challenges must be tackled. Speaking in Lagos during a meeting with a delegation from the National Assembly on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, Tinubu outlined several strategies to combat these issues. The delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, included notable figures such as Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu.
Tinubu highlighted the critical need to eliminate banditry and terrorism to allow farmers to return to their fields, thereby boosting food production. He pointed out that without good infrastructure, particularly roads, even successful harvests suffer significant losses due to damage during transportation. This, in turn, affects food availability and prices.
The President called for a shift in the national value system, urging citizens to move away from a rent-seeking mentality and become more productive. He criticized economic sabotage activities such as smuggling, theft of rail tracks, and electric cables, which undermine the nation’s progress.
“We must embrace the campaign to change our value system,” Tinubu stressed, emphasizing the collective effort required to change mindsets about Nigeria and address its challenges effectively.
He also praised the National Assembly’s leadership for their support, attributing some of his administration’s achievements to their partnership. Tinubu assured Nigerians of his commitment to overcoming the nation’s hardships, stating that despite the daunting task, the country must persevere.
