In response to a tragic auto crash at the Aba waterside bridge that claimed about four lives, the Abia State government has reimposed restrictions on the movement of heavy-duty vehicles. The incident involved a container-laden truck that lost control, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The government expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of the necessary support.
The newly reinstated measures restrict the movement of heavy-duty vehicles in Aba and Umuahia from 7 am to 8 pm. This decision comes as a response to the recent tragedy and aims to enhance road safety in these areas. The government emphasized its commitment to preventing such incidents and ensuring the well-being of residents.
Former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration had previously implemented similar restrictions, but compliance waned after his tenure. The tragic incident has prompted the government to revisit and reinforce these measures to safeguard lives and property.
The statement, issued by Mr. Dodoh Okafor, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication, also mentioned that the government is reaching out to the families of the victims to provide the necessary support. As Abia State mourns the lives lost in the accident, the restoration of movement restrictions for heavy-duty vehicles reflects a proactive approach to prevent similar incidents in the future.
