On Friday, Ike Ihiala, a Nigerian, offered to pay the monthly charge for Peter Obi’s verification badge, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate.
On Thursday, news organizations reported that Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, had removed the verification badge for users who had not signed up for the blue-tick.
The former governor of Anambra State’s Twitter account was impacted, along with the accounts of numerous other politicians, journalists, celebrities, and others.

Some politicians have chosen to pay the subscription fee to keep their accounts verified in order to maintain the verification badge.
Ihiala, who appeared angry that Twitter had taken Obi’s account’s verification badge away, offered to pay for his subscription.
Ihiala claimed that he was working hard to maintain Obi’s credibility in order to prevent criminal elements from impersonating the presidential candidate, whom he referred to as the President of the people.
Ihiala in a post on his Twitter account on Friday wrote, “Since @elonmusk is personally paying for the @TwitterBlue Verification Badge of at least three celebrities, I’ll pay for the restoration/monthly subscription of the Verification Badge of the People’s President, H.E. @PeterObi.

“@Twitter, how do we go about this, ASAP?”
