Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has urged members of the Imo State Council of Elders to work together to make sure that the Charter of Equity is implemented as intended.
He pledged to use the legislative and executive branches of the government to uphold the law and its application.
Uzodinma provided the promise on Monday during a courtesy visit to him at the New Exco Chambers, Government House, by members of the Imo State Council of Elders, led by their chairman, HRH Eze (Dr.) Cletus Ilomuanya.

The Imo State Elders Council has arrived to stay, he said, “as it is backed up by Act of the Parliament.” He thanked the elders for coming and reminded them of this.
The Charter of Equity is not a document that should be taken lightly, according to Uzodinma, “because it holds a lot of future for the peace of Imo State.”
He recalled the high level of unrest and political unpredictability that followed his ascent to power in 2020, claiming that they were politically fabricated and supported by some State political insiders.
The governor noted that while looking for a solution, it was found that people felt marginalised and excluded politically as a result of the type of politics that were practised in the State, which he claimed was a major factor in the Charter of Equity’s creation.
“That is why when the Charter was conceived it was welcomed by the government as possible solution to the crisis in the State,” Uzodinma explained.

The Governor stated that “people should not think that the Charter of Equity is a mere document because there will be an internal mechanism that will be played up by the Governor of the State.”
The system, according to him, will serve to recognise merit and competence, get rid of mediocrity, and raise performance in the public’s best interests.
