According to information acquired by Newsmen from the Labour Party (LP) governorship primary site in Imo State, three factions held independent elections today at several sites throughout the state.
According to reports, while roughly 10 of the candidates chose to hold their primary elections at the Landmark Event Centre in New Owerri with their delegate teams, three other candidates and their teams held their polling locations along MCC Road in Urrata, Owerri North Local Government Area.
Peter Obi, the party’s nominee for the state congress election and chairman of the screening committee, is rumored to have aligned with one of the factions.

Some of the aspirants who are vying for the party’s governorship ticket and have secured the Nomination Forms in the state include Major General Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (retd), Senator Athan Achonu, Martin Agbaso, Chief Joseph Ukaegbu, Tochi J.Ehirim, Ike Ibe, Kelechi Nwagwu, Basil Maduka, Chinedu Amadi, AIG Charles Agomuo (retd), Capt David Mbamara (retd), Fabian Ihekueme and Chief C. Ishiguzo.
This web portal remembered that all candidates were reportedly screened by the party’s screening committee in the state.
However, it was discovered that the candidates’ preparation continues even though the official list of those who qualified for the primary election has not yet been determined.
Festus Onywjwulisi, the chairman of the Labour Party in Imo State, told Nigerian Tribune that the party is completely ready for the primary election and that nothing will be able to stop it.
