The OBI/DATTI campaign council’s constitution and inauguration by Prof. Pat Utomi during his recent visit to the state were rejected on Thursday by the Labour Party, LP, Imo State Chapter, who described it as a joke taken too far.
The party stated that no one has been selected to the Imo State Presidential Campaign Council and that the procedure is, at the very least, void.
Recall that at the banquet hall of the Immaculate Royal Hotel, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, Professor Pat Utomi purportedly appointed one Dr. Fabian Ihekweme to the Imo Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council.

In a statement provided to Newsmen in Owerri in response to the development, the Labour Party stated that it was only aware that Prof. Pat Utomi was in the state as the National Leader of the National Consultative Forum to attend the endorsement of Mr. Peter Obi as the presidential candidate of the Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP), and nothing else.
The release reads, “Neither the State working committee, its Chairman, Dr. Ambrose Onyekwere, nor the entire leadership of the party including its candidates, stakeholders, and members were aware of the constitution and inauguration of OBI/DATTI campaign council inaugurated by Prof. Pat Utomi, on 12th August, until it zoomed into public space.
“Prof. Pat Utomi, when approached on this matter by the state Chairman, pleaded that it was “a gross error” and that it would be corrected.

“That on the 16th of August, a self-acclaimed cell of the so-called presidential campaign council visited the Imo State Labour party Headquarters.
“Three of the visitors including Dr. Fabian Ihekweme spoke, and they, in turn, admitted that there was an error in the inauguration in Imo State. They pledged to work closely and harmoniously with the Labour Party.”
The Imo State Chairman, Dr. Ambrose Onyekwere, responded by making it clear that the party in Imo does not recognize the “Campaign Council” and drawing their attention to a publication made by the Labour Party’s national publicity secretary regarding the appointment of Mr. Charles Odibo as the head of communication of the presidential system council, which he deemed inappropriate and unconstitutional.
The Chairman further instructed them to contact the Labour Party’s National Chairman and clean up their behaviour.

“The Labour Party, Imo State, hereby reiterates our complete alignment with the Labour Party National Working Committee’s position that the formation and inauguration of the presidential campaign council in Imo State is a joke taken too far and can best be described as null and void, and as such not recognized by the Labour Party, Imo State Chapter,” he said.
