Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, a son of the former Libyan leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi, has confirmed his presidential ambition after picking a form from the nation’s electoral body on Sunday, November 14.
Anaedoonline.ng understands that Al-Gaddafi was sighted registering himself with the nation’s Higher National Electoral Commission today.
The development is coming amid doubts that the 2021 Libyan general election scheduled for December 24 may not hold due to disagreements between rival entities.

“Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi submitted his candidacy for the presidential election to the High National Electoral Commission office in the [southern] city of Sebha,” a statement by the nation’s commission confirmed today.
Photos sighted on social media today had as well shown Gaddafi, with a grey beard and wearing glasses and a traditional brown robe, signing documents at the registration centre in the southern town of Sebha.
Anaedoonline.ng understands that it was agreed on Friday during a major conference in Paris, France that anyone who tried to disrupt or prevent the vote would be sanctioned. There was, however, no agreement on rules to govern who should be able to run.
The elections are envisaged as a key moment in the UN-backed peace process to end a decade of violent chaos that has drawn in regional powers and undermined Mediterranean stability since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising against Muammar Gaddafi.
