Mai Mala Buni Approves N667m For Payment Of Pension

The payment of N667 million to 475 pensioners in the state’s 17 local government areas has been authorized by Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs for Buni, announced the clearance on Friday in Damaturu.

He said that the clearance came after a commission that the state government had earlier appointed had examined and verified the pensioners.
According to Mohammed, “the committee has verified a total of 475 beneficiaries and has attached lists of beneficiaries and a summary according to local government areas for both living and deceased pensioners.”

He assured that the state government would settle all outstanding pensions owed retired workers in the state. (NAN)

Following the instruction of its national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, to reverse several decisions made by the Governor Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker Chairman, a crisis may be building in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, Buni’s order to APC attorneys to appeal judgments challenging congresses controlled by the caretaker committee, which he issued before leaving office, has been revoked.

This comes less than a week after Adamu announced his intention to investigate the party’s finances under his predecessor.

Recall that the APC leadership had appealed a judgment of the Federal High Court recognising the Akwa Ibom State faction of the APC led by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, over that of the erstwhile Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe.

But in a letter signed by the Head, Legal Services of the APC, which was addressed to Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) & Company dated April 6, 2022, Adamu had directed that all cases appealed by Buni’s committee be immediately withdrawn.

The letter titled, ‘Notice of Withdrawal of Instruction’, read in part, “I have the instruction of the national legal adviser to convey the decision of the leadership of the party to obey the judgment in respect of the above captioned suit having been served with the same.

“Our instruction on the above matter was terminated at the Federal High Court. Consequently, the party is not interested in pursuing the appeal in respect of the above matter.

“I have further instructions of the national legal adviser to request that you withdraw all the processes filed on behalf of the party and H.E. Mai Mala Buni, the erstwhile national chairman of the CECPC, at the Court of Appeal.”

It was gathered APC had begun the process of withdrawing all the cases from the Court of Appeal.

Speaking to Newsmen, top APC sources warned Senator Abdullahi Adamu against reversing moves by Buni, warming it may lead to massive defection and crisis.

“The best thing for Senator Adamu to have done was to allow the cases to run their course. There are over 200 cases in court at the moment. He should have let them continue,” an APC chieftain said.

“What the new national chairman is doing now is to reverse Buni’s actions and those who feel slighted will be forced to leave the party.”

Efforts by Mai Mala Buni, the beleaguered Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and Yobe State Governor, to see President Muhammadu Buhari over the APC issue have encountered a brick wall.

The beleaguered APC Chairman had previously departed Dubai for London to see Buhari in an effort to reclaim leadership of the ruling party, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

The beleaguered APC leader was due to return to Nigeria last Wednesday following a medical vacation to Dubai, according to insiders, but he changed his mind.

“He will now fly to London to talk with President Muhammadu Buhari about the crisis in the party,” a source said.

According to The Guardian, Mai Mala Buni has not been allowed to visit Buhari since his arrival in the United Kingdom.

According to reports, the Yobe governor was denied access to the President.

“As we speak, Buni is still trying to find a method to visit the President,” the person stated. He is unable to see him, and you understand why. But anything might happen before the end of the day.”

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello, according to reports, has also flown to London to see Buhari.

Sani-Bello, who has the support of Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, among others, reportedly traveled to London to persuade Buhari not to listen to Buni.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might face additional legal challenges, according to rumors that certain governors are intending to go to court to prevent Governor Mai Mala Buni from functioning as the ruling party’s chairman.

The governors opposed to Buni are reportedly asking the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello as the legitimate chairman, notwithstanding President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to interfere in the dispute.

According to a prominent insider, one of the key causes of the APC’s dilemma is Buhari’s inability to take decisive action.

“After the problematic congresses, Buni took sides with some of these governors who were experiencing issues with their ministers or senators,” he stated. Despite what El-Rufai claims, at least seven of these governors support Buni. Following INEC’s decision, more will follow suit in the coming days.

“However, for the obstinate, the choice of going to court now appears to be unavoidable.”
Some governors are now debating whether Buni should be suspended and Bello should take over through the courts. INEC will be obliged to cooperate if they can obtain a court order. This is how our party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, was removed from office.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, neither responded to calls nor a text message on Friday.

Anaedoonline.ng reports that Governors Rotimi Akeredolu, Nasir El-Rufai and Kayode Fayemi of Ondo, Kaduna and Ekiti respectively are among those opposed to Buni’s leadership.
