Maj-Gen Umaru Muhammed was found guilty of stealing $1.476 million, according to the Nigerian Army Special Court Martial in Abuja.

The accused entered a plea of not guilty over the course of the trial and called two witnesses, according to Maj.-Gen. James Myam, the court’s president, who spoke on Wednesday.

According to him, the defendant was found guilty by the court of stealing $1.04 million between May 7, 2019, and June 24, 2021, all while holding the position of GMD for NAPL.
The accused was found guilty of ordering one Maj. Usman and another, who is currently at large, to extort money in dollars from ship owners, the court president continued.
Count 7, which involves a criminal conspiracy to fake a document in collusion with one Yusuf Abdulahi, according to Mr. Myam, did not result in a conviction for Mr. Muhammad.
The court president stated that he was, nonetheless, found guilty of forgery in connection with counts 8 and 9 of theft of $430,800.
The general was also found guilty by the court of conspiring to fake documents and selling corporate property for N200 million although he was no longer employed by NAPL.

He was also found guilty of defrauding the business on August 22, 2019, of N74 million.
The court ruled that the accused could not account for N2.5 billion that belonged to the corporation on counts 14, 15, 16, and 18, which had elements of criminal misappropriation.
The court determined that the prosecution failed to establish count 17’s claim that the general withdrew N750 million from the company’s account beyond a reasonable doubt.
