Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has requested that his medical vacation be extended by the state House of Assembly.
In his letter, he stated that his request was based on doctors’ recommendations, implying that he required longer rest after his recovery.
In Akure, the state capital, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, confirmed receipt of the letter.

Oladiji praised Akeredolu for abiding by the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, particularly Section 190, and expressed thanks for his quick recuperation and optimism for his return.
In his letter, Governor Akeredolu affirmed that Deputy Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa will serve as acting governor “until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”
Previously, on June 5, 2023, Akeredolu informed the Assembly of his medical leave, which was scheduled to terminate on July 6, 2023.
The state’s Organized Labor has requested that the governor prioritize relaxation before returning to work, noting his quick recovery but proposing further recuperation time before resuming his duties.
