The Nigerian government has approved the allocation of N134,749,953,243.69 for security debarment allowances for military veterans. This announcement was made by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, during a ministerial briefing for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
The allocation of these funds is a significant step in demonstrating the government’s commitment to the well-being of veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The phased rollout of the Security Debarment Allowance, which previously excluded veterans, began in January 2023.

Minister Badaru emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions and sacrifices made by service personnel and veterans. He stated that these individuals deserve the best support and care, and the government is committed to ensuring that they receive it.
In addition to the allocation for veterans, Minister Badaru also addressed the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria. He stressed the government’s commitment to equipping the armed forces with the necessary hardware and training to tackle these security issues effectively.

The minister highlighted that providing the armed forces with the required equipment and training would help reduce casualties among Nigerian troops in their efforts to combat terrorism and armed banditry. Minister Badaru commended the dedication and sacrifices of the Nigerian military in protecting the lives and properties of citizens. He acknowledged that while challenges persist, the situation is gradually improving, thanks to the resilience and bravery of the armed forces.
