However, in an older statement, the former governorship candidate told Newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday that Gen. Gowon should avoid saying anything that would remind Ndigbo and other Nigerians of the bloody war episodes of the past.
Okereke, who said that Nigerians were experiencing extreme poverty, made the observation that insulting remarks from a prominent citizen like Gowon may incite further indignation.
He claimed that Gowon was incorrect to compare President Bola Tinubu to his military government. According to Okereke, the nation’s current crises stemmed from Gowon’s choice to establish a 12-state system rather than carry out a pre-civil war agreement he signed with Odumegwu Ojukwu.
“Why is he comparing himself with Tinubu? He is supposed to retire. He should not remind us of what has been forgotten. He owes Ndigbo and Nigerians an apology and he should do that now.
