Popular skit maker, Cute Abiola has been released by the Nigerian Navy following weeks of being held in detention.

Recall that on 16th November, Mr Macaroni raised an alarm over the sudden disappearance of Cute Abiola, where he declared the comedian missing.

It didn’t take long before the Nigerian Navy released an official statement pertaining to Cute Abiola’s arrest which they stated that he violated and breached the armed forces’ social media policy.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Friday 3rd December, the naval spokesman, Commodore Suleman Dahun maintained that Cute Abiola deliberately violated the armed forces’ social media policy but was given a punishment after he was tried for misconduct and indiscipline.

He added that the hilarious content creator is no longer in naval detention as he has been released to serve his punishment.

Popular skit maker, Mr Macaroni gives an update on his colleague, Abdulgafar Ahmad Oluwatoyin better known as Cute Abiola who is currently in the custody of the Nigerian Navy.

Recall that Cute Abiola was arrested by the security arm for violating and breaching the Armed Forces of Nigeria social media policy.

The Navy revealed that the matter is an administrative one and is being treated as such.

However, following weeks in detention, Mr Macaroni in response to numerous questions as regards the condition of the online comedian, took to Twitter to assert that he’s still in detention and can only be seen by his wife and mother.

Macaroni further noted that he doesn’t want to speak much on Cute Abiola’s case so that his statement wouldn’t be taken in bad faith.

He wrote:

“A lot of people have been asking me about Cute Abiola. I don’t have much information as only his Wife and Mother are allowed to see him. And I do not want to speak much on the matter so that my statement isn’t taken in bad faith. But last I checked he is still in custody.

His wife told me personally that she and his mom are granted access to see him. The Nigerian Navy has said that he is in custody for breaching some codes and refusing to obey order. As a military officer, he is answerable to their command and under their jurisdiction.

The Nigerian Navy has revealed why comedian, Abdulgafar Ahmad better known as Cute Abiola is yet to be released after 10 days in detention.

Recall that the skit maker was arrested by the Navy for ‘breaching the Social Media Policy and refusal to obey particular orders.

News about him being missing was disseminated by his colleague, Mr Macaroni, which prompted the Navy to issue a press release where they disclosed he’s in their custody.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Wednesday gave Traditional rulers and President Generals who allegedly masterminded the arrest and detention of its members in Ogbaru, Anambra state, seven days ultimatum to release them.

In a statement released by the group, the groups media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful warned that failure to comply would lead to something unimaginable.

“On this note, we demand the unconditional release of all the youths arrested by the Navy at Atani and other communities in Ogbaru, Anambra State. If you evil monarchs doubt our resolve to deal with you, fail to release those arrested by naval officers in the affected communities within seven days. If after seven days the arrested youths are not released, the treacherous traditional rulers and President Generals who masterminded their ordeals should prepare to reap the fruit of their treachery!”

The Nigerian Navy says six suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were killed during a gun battle at Awkuzu in Anambra state on Monday, August 9.

Commander Officer of Naval Outpost in Onitsha, Adekunle Okeniyi, in a statement also described as false the alleged killing of two of its personnel during the incident.

Okeniyi said the pro-Biafra group attacked the troops but were repelled.

The statement read, “The attention of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha has been drawn to some false publications that on the 9th August 2001, two naval personnel were killed at Awkuzu during a gun duel with suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra state.

“The Naval Outpost Onitsha clearly refutes this fake news and wishes to state categorically that none of our own personnel suffered any casualty during the gun duel.

“Rather, the troops fought gallantly and were able to repel the attack which resulted in the loss of six suspected IPOB members while others suffered serious injury.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Naval Outpost Onitsha calls for an immediate halt to the circulation of this fake news and wishes to advise the general public to disregard this fake news.”

IPOB had on July 30 ordered sit-at-home in the South-East every Monday, until Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, is released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The group had said the lockdown tagged ‘Ghost Monday’ would also affect schools and marketplaces.

The sit-at-home was observed in the South-East on Monday and IPOB has announced that the directive will stand till Kanu is released.

The Biafra Nations League, BNL, has berated the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo for deploying ships, tugboats, helicopters and aircrafts to the Gulf of Guinea.

BNL, which has its operational base in Bakassi Peninsula in the eastern end of the Gulf of Guinea accused the Chief of Naval Staff of “taking such decisions because of our planned expulsion of oil companies operating under Nigeria in the maritime boundary area of Bakassi Peninsula.”

In a joint statement signed by the National Leader of BNL, Princewill C Richard, Deputy National Leader, Ebuta Akor Takon and the Chief of Staff of BNL, Linus Essien on Saturday evening, the group said “any military operations in the Gulf of Guinea would be resisted by the inhabitants of the region.”

Recall that the Nigerian Navy had at the weekend deployed six ships, two tugboats, two helicopters and a Nigerian Airforce ATR42 aircraft to the Gulf of Guinea.

Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), had on Saturday inaugurated the 11th Exercise Obangame Express 2021.

The flag-off of the multinational exercise for maritime security was held on the board of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) THUNDER, at the Naval Dockyard in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Gambo said the huge resources and vast potential of the Gulf of Guinea was being undermined by multifaceted domestic and cross-border threats.

The Nigerian Navy on Tuesday deployed troops on board six warships and 60 gunboats for a special military exercise.

The drill targets pirates, oil smugglers and other criminalities in the nation’s waters.

Rear Admiral David Adeniran, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Calabar, made the announcement.

He spoke at the flag-off of the exercise in Onne, Rivers State.

The operation code-named, ‘Exercise Sanga Sung,’ means ‘Safe Transit’ in Ibibio dialect. The States to be covered are Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ebonyi and Rivers. The commander explained the operation would consolidate ‘Exercises Bekan Mmon I and II’

Adeniran added that the purpose was to train personnel and check the state of preparedness of fleets.

Successful Candidates List Released- Nigerian Navy

Nigerian Navy has on Thursday 10th Oct. released the list of successful candidates in the 2019 recruitment interview held in Lagos between July 29 and Aug. 27.

Navy Director of Information, Commodore Suleman Dahun, announced this in a statement in Abuja, adding that the list could be accessed online at www.joinnigeriannavy.com.

Dahun said the successful candidates would report for training in two batches at the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS) Onne, Port Harcourt, Rivers.

He added that NNBTS Batch 29 A would report on Oct. 18, while NNBTS Batch 29 B would report to camp on May 8, 2020.

He directed the shortlisted candidates to report to camp with two navy blue PT shorts, two white round neck vests, one pair of white canvas, and one pair of brown canvas.

He listed other items as; two pairs of black trousers, two white long sleeve shirts, two black ties, one pair of black shoes and three pairs of white long socks.

“The candidates are also to come with one pair of national dress, originals and photocopies of credentials, BVN print out and one set of cutlery,” he said.

He warned that candidates who report four days after the indicated dates would not be allowed into the training premises.

Nigerian Navy detains 14 suspected oil, diesel smugglers in major operation

No fewer than 14 men have been arrested by the Nigerian Navy for smuggling adulterated diesel and ‘black oil’ to unsuspecting consumers in Rivers, an official said.

Capt. Samuel Garba, Executive Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, made the disclosure while parading the 14 suspected smugglers before newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Garba said that the suspects were caught in the act of trans-loading adulterated diesel and black oil from 12 large wooden boats into nine 33,000 litres capacity trucks.

According to him, the suspects were arrested in three different raids carried out at suspected illegal bunkering sites in Marine Base, Rumuolumeni and Eleme locations.

“In the first raid on Sept.16 at Horly Kings Waterfront at Marine base, our patrol team arrested nine suspects while trans-loading petroleum product.

“They were caught lifting substances believed to be stolen crude oil from eight wooden boats to six trucks stationed within a yard at the waterfront.

“In addition, a Sport Utility Vehicle stacked with sum of N1.95 million belonging to one of the suspects was confiscated,” he told newsmen.

Garba said that the troops also arrested one suspect accused of trans-loading stolen diesel from two wooden boats to a truck on Sept. 17 around Yesin Waterside area of Rumuolumeni.

The executive officer said that the wooden boats were discharging the adulterated diesel to the truck stationed 100 meters away from the site before the seizure.

“The third raid was conducted on Sept. 27 around Sand Fill at Eleme. There, we caught four suspects in the act discharging substances suspected to be black oil.

“The suspects were discharging the petroleum product into two 33,000 litres capacity truck stationed nearby before their arrest and seizure.

“Consequently, a total of 14 suspects, 12 wooden boats with products and nine trucks were detained to enable the (navy) base to conduct preliminary investigation,” he added.

Garba handed over the 14 suspects, diesel and oil to operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to conduct further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects in court.

He said that the handover was in line with the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures that spelt out roles for security agencies in combating illegalities in the oil and gas sector.

According to him, the navy will not rest on its oars until it rids the waterways and creeks of illegal refining and bunker sites as part of efforts to end years of oil theft.

Receiving the suspects, Mr Onuekwa Khela, NSCDC’s Head of Intel and Investigation, commended the navy for its synergy with the corps.

Khela, who said the corps would conduct speedy investigation into the matter, pledged that the suspects would be arraigned if found culpable to the crime.
