In commemoration of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Chairperson of the Nnewi North Local Government Area, Lady Amaka Obiora paid a visit to Nigeria Science and Tech College, Nnewi.
The event which took place on the 7th day of June is geared towards making young girls understand that menstruation is a normal fact of life, in line with the United Nations Initiatives to prioritize menstrual health and eliminate period poverty.
The Chairperson who gave essential lessons on menstrual hygiene and the need to maintain genuine female dignity equally distributed menstrual kits to about 300 students of the college after attending to their questions.

Apart from the well simplified information on menstrual care, she equally addressed other issues on healthy living such as confidence and stress management by girls on their period.
Expressing her special love for the girl child, Lady Obiora stated that girls become mothers, so extra care should be given to a girl child. In her words, “the girl child you are looking at is a future mother, they will bring up our future generations, that is why we should put a lot of interest in the upbringing of a girl child”.
The Protocol officer to the Nnewi North Local Government Chairperson, Uju Edokwe revealed that the package distributed to the students were sponsored by the Chairperson, Mrs. Amaka Obiora the wife of the TC Chair, Nnewi North LGA.
She enjoined the girls to maintain good morals and keep themselves clean during menstruation.
It was an important event that highlighted the need for girls to stay clean and maintain a normal lifestyle during menstruation.
