Nwankwo Kanu, a former Nigerian and Arsenal forward, has been named chairman of Nigerian league champions Enyimba, according to a state government official.
The nomination was made public by Abia State’s newly elected governor, Alex Otti.
Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who led “The People’s Elephant” for 24 years and led the team to two CAF Champions League championship medals, was succeeded by Kanu.

Finidi George, a former Super Eagles teammate of Kanu’s, led the state government-owned Enyimba to a record-tying eighth league championship and a spot in the CAF Champions League for the following year.
John Sam Obuh, who has recently been involved with the Roma Academy in Abuja, has also been named as the chairman of another Nigeria Premier League side, Abia Warriors.
