The former governors and others are said to have been freed a few months after Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari granted them pardons.
UPDATE: Buhari Pardons Former Gov Dariye, Nyame Jailed For Corruption
It may be noted that the pair were found guilty of fraud in 2018 by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Nyame received a 12-year sentence for misappropriating N1.64 billion while serving as the governor of Taraba, whereas Dariye received a 10-year sentence for fraud involving N1.126 billion.
However, the pardon of the inmates was authorized by the Council of State, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, on April 14, which sparked protests.
Chukwuedo Humphrey, the FCT Spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, verified their release in a phone chat with our correspondent.
