The 7th Assembly of Anambra State has urged the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano to direct the commissioner for works to undertake the total reconstruction of Obodoukwu-Ede road in Ogbaru
The member representing Ogbaru 1 constituency, Chukwunonso Nobel Igwe moved the motion and was seconded by member representing Anaocha 1 Constituency, Ebele Ejiofor
Throwing more light to the motion, Igwe noted that” The deteriorated state of the Obodoukwu-Ede road is a death trap and threatens the smooth running of business activities within the constituency; this has led to an increased number of accidents.
It would be recalled that in July 2019, a trailer carrying container fell on top of three tricycles (Keke), killing some of the passengers while others sustained several injuries.
“These roads serve as a link to major roads (Onitsha/Owerri road and Onitsha/Enugu road) and major markets as well, most importantly the Ogbaru main market, the Ogboefere, and plastic markets, the near-death nature of the road have affected thee flow in and out of the markets.

“Cognizant that the said road is pivotal in decongesting traffic associated with Upper Iweka axis, hence reducing traffic jam. Worried that Okpoko community, the largest rural/urban suburb with over one million populations has no single access road and further worried that the constituency has turned to a den of criminal’s activities due to poor road access for security operatives to carry out operations.
“Concerned that by the challenges the bad roads pose to the seamless transportation of goods and services in and out of the constituency, thus causing a crack in revenue generation. Disturbed that the poor state of the road has spawned untold hardship and incommode to road users which in turn affects the means of livelihood on a daily basis. This is the only road that links the entire constituency. My people are going through untold hardship because of this road. Duo to the nature of this road, crime is on the increase at that axis”. Contributing to the motion, the legislator’s highlighted the importance of the road to Ndi-Ogbaru and the entire state urged the government to come to the aid of Ogbaru 1 constituency.
It would be recalled that the commissioner of works recently pleaded with Ndi-Anambra to be patient promising that immediately the raining season is over, they will go back to work to address the erosion menace in the state
