The Ogun State Police Command announced on Wednesday that four travelers who were abducted on Sunday along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway have been safely rescued.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, shared this update in a statement, noting that the anti-kidnapping team managed to secure the release of the captives near the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Among those rescued were a man identified as Mr. Ola and three Indian nationals.
SP Odutola stated, “One Mr. Ola, Pujan, and two other Indians, whose names are yet to be confirmed, have regained their freedom along Ogere, inward Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had previously directed the anti-kidnapping unit to initiate a manhunt for the assailants who ambushed and kidnapped the travelers. The incident occurred between the Sagamu Area Command and Ilisan township.
According to Wemmy Osude, Chairman of the Ilisan Development Council, some other victims were also taken into the bush by the kidnappers during the ambush.
This rescue operation underscores the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to combating kidnapping and ensuring the safety of travelers in the region. Efforts continue to bring the perpetrators to justice and secure the release of any remaining victims.
