If Manchester United had listened to the club’s previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they might have acquired Erling Haaland from Norwegian club Molde for just £4 million.
For Manchester City, Haaland is currently breaking records and scoring goals, but the result may have been different in 2018 if Manchester United had taken Solskjaer’s advise.
When the former United player and manager coached the kid at Molde between 2015 and 2018, he became aware of Haaland’s lethal goal-scoring talent.

Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess so impressed Solskjaer that he had to call Manchester United and compel them to purchase the gifted Norwegian striker for under £4 million.
The fact that United disregarded his advise led to Haaland finally signing with RB Salzburg, moving to Dortmund, and then being acquired by Manchester City for £50 million in the summer of 2022.
He is currently regarded as the most valuable striker in the world and is estimated to be worth approximately £200 million in addition to being the finest striker in the world.
“I called United about six months before I took over and told them that I’d got this striker that we had,” said Solskjaer as quoted by TalkSport.
“But they didn’t listen.
“I asked for £4m for Haaland but they didn’t sign him.”
Amid Threat Of Points Deduction, Relegation, Haaland Set To Leave Manchester City
The fans of United, who have witnessed their club struggle for the majority of the season due to an inconsistent number 9, will be greatly hurt by this revelation.
Marcus Rashford, who has scored 29 goals for Manchester United so far this season, primarily plays as a winger. While supposed club number nine Wout Weghorst has only managed to score twice in 27 games.
Erling Haaland, a 22-year-old player, has scored 51 goals in 47 games in all competitions this season after scoring 35 goals in the Premier League alone.
Erik Ten Hag is now looking for a top striker to buy this summer while Manchester City continues to benefit from the services of Haaland, Manchester United’s coach.
