Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege Accused Of Working For Peter Obi – Cairo Ojuogbo

On Saturday, Cairo Ojuogbo, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy Senate President, conspired to prevent Bola Tinubu from becoming the country’s next president.

According to Ojuogbo, Omo-Agege did not fight for Tinubu’s ascent since he never thought Tinubu would win the presidential race.

Speaking on Arise Television, the APC leader asserted that the deputy senate president supported Peter Obi, the candidate for president of the Labour Party (LP), during the most recent election.

He also denied allegations that he was kicked out of the APC in Delta State by the Omo-Agege section of the party.

According to Ojuogbo: “Omo-Agege did anti-party, he never believed Tinubu will win the presidential election, look at all his postal it was Peter Obi. He never believed Tinubu would win the election; he never worked for his emergence.

“Look at the way he carried out his campaign in Delta State; he gathered small boys and used them. He said he was in politics to injure people, after which he goes around begging leaders.”

APC Reportedly Expels Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege

The Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly removed the party’s Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.

According to news reports, the APC gubernatorial candidate was expelled for alleged anti-party activity and other unspecified offenses.

Remember that Omo-Agege lost the Delta State governorship race to Sheriff Oborevwori, a Peoples Democratic Party candidate.

Omo-Agege received 240,229 votes, while Oborevwori received 360,234 votes.

The suspension of the Deputy Senate President was revealed in a letter dated March 31, 2023, which Newsmen received on Monday.

The letter of expulsion was signed by the Chairman, Ulebor Isaac, on behalf of the Delta APC State Executive Committee, as well as the Secretary, Inana Michael, and 23 others.

The executive committee of the Orogun ward and Ughelli North Local Government chapter of Delta APC overwhelmingly agreed and adopted Omo-expulsion Agege’s as a member of the party.

The letter reads, “The State Executive Committee of all Progressive Congress Delta State in a meeting held on the 31st March 2023 at the State Secretariat, Asaba, after due deliberation of the Notice of Resolution of Expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as a member of the party by the executive committee of the Orogun ward and Ughelli North local government chapter dated 20th March 2023.

“And in accordance with the provision of Article 21.2 (1)(II)(VII) 21.3 and 21.5(g) of the constitution 2022 (as amended), we unanimously resolved and adopted the expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo Agege as a member of the party.

“Consequently, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege hereby stands expelled as a member of the party with immediate effect for various offences committed and acts of anti-party activities and gross misconduct that has brought shame and ridicule to the image of the party in the state which affected the party in the just concluded elections.”

Cairo Ojougboh, a Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has claimed that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege lost the state’s governorship race in 2023 because he is an Igbe worshiper.

He further stated that the reality of the APC governorship candidate’s failure is not distant from the fact that he is a citizen of the United States of America.

Sheriff Oborevwori, a Peoples Democratic Party candidate, was proclaimed the victor of the March 18 gubernatorial election.

Omo-Agege Backed By 800 Obi Support Groups in Delta

Oborevwori received 360,234 votes, beating Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC, who received 240,229 votes, and Ken Pela of the Labour Party, who received 48,047 votes.

Ojougboh, a former Director of Projects on the Niger Delta Development Commission’s interim board, was dismissed from the APC following the elections after being accused of anti-party acts on February 25th and March 18th.

In a previous statement, Ojougboh claimed that the Deputy President of the Senate was responsible for his supposed expulsion from the APC.

On Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday morning, he expressed his thoughts on why Deltans did not vote for the APC candidate in the state.

“As people know me, I speak the truth and I don’t hide from the truth. If telling the party the truth is anti-party, then it’s unfortunate,” he said.

“But I know I haven’t committed any form of anti-party. Because it’s not today that myself and leaders of the Council of APC in Delta State have spoken and made our points known that Omo-Agege cannot win the election.

“I refer you to Section 183(1a) of the Constitution of Nigeria which talks about the citizenship of a governorship aspirant…it is very clear. He holds an American passport.

“He is a citizen of the United States of America, and he cannot win an election and told the party. Who’s going to listen to him in court?

“The documents of his citizenship are there. We sat with Senator Adamu Abdullahi and told him why Omo-Agege cannot win the election and why the party cannot be left for OmoAgege.

“We told him number one, Deltans are very sceptical about voting for somebody who belongs to Igbe Society. I have where the Igbe Society met and declared that when Omo-Agege becomes Governor of Delta State, they will worship Igbe in the government house.

“That they will have a chapter of Igbe in the government house. We went further to tell him that he must carry everybody along for him to win the election in Delta State.

About 800 Peter Obi supporters in Delta state have opted to collaborate with the state’s All Progressive Congress governorship candidate and deputy Senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege, to ensure his election on Saturday.

Ochuko Edafe, the coalition’s lead coordinator from Delta Central, told journalists in Asaba that the APC candidate is the most credible of all those on the ballot for the governorship race.
Edafe stated that members of the Obidient Movement are not Labour Party members, but rather motivated by the credibility and character of individual candidates.

“What we look out for is credible candidates across the board. And we have chosen to work with Ovie Omo-Agege, he is the most credible candidate in the race.

“We know everything happening in Delta State, we have suffered for too long, and we are going to maximise this opportunity,” he said.
According to him, Omo-Agege has a track record of performance as a federal legislator.

“From 1999 till date, there has never been any senator that you will be proud of that brought dividends of democracy like Omo-Agege has done, his footprints are there, there is no community in Delta central without his presence.
“People are saying why not follow the LP candidate, but we have been able to explain that we joined the ‘Obidient’ movement because Obi is credible. That is why we have said the only credible governorship candidate is Omo-Agege,” he added.

Also speaking, the acting lead coordinator of the Obidient Movement in the state, Ngozi Ariel Nkonyegwachie, said the Deputy Senate President would provide the needed fresh air if elected as governor.

She said Omo-Agege possesses the same character as Peter Obi, hence they decided to join forces with the APC to deliver the candidate.
Addressing the gathering earlier, Omo-Agege promised to run a participatory government if elected, noting that Delta APC and Obedient Movement have things in common.

He said the common enemy is the PDP, urging the amorphous group to join hands with him to root out the ruling party in the state.

Omo-Agege accused the PDP-led state government of misrule, embezzlement of public funds and bringing untold hardship to the people.

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, an All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Delta State, attacked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Thursday.

After meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja, the Deputy Senate President spoke with reporters.

The legislator denied that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) controls Delta.

“That is a grave misunderstanding. Delta is quite ready to be taken,” he said.

Omo-Agege expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the oil-rich State despite receiving significant funding from the federal government.

He said that Delta had received about N4.2 trillion since Okowa took office in 2015.

“This came by way of federal allocation, 13 percent derivation, and also about N400billion the State has borrowed,’’ he said.

Omo-Agege said that the N30,000 minimum wage as well as gratuities and pensions were not paid by Okowa’s administration.

Despite being a doctor, the senator claimed that Delta’s health care system was subpar.

Okowa was accused of undermining the push for a Southern presidency by the PDP candidate.

The South’s representative as President Buhari’s successor, he claimed, is only fair and equitable.

The governor was one of the regional leaders that led the drive and met in Asaba and Lagos, according to Omo-Agege.

“Okowa betrayed that course by selling away our right, and instead going for Vice President when the country is offering us the presidency.

”So our people are not taking this treachery kindly and are determined that they will punish him,” he added.

Okowa rejected earlier this week that he was working against the South’s will to elect the next president of Nigeria.

APC heavyweights such as the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his wife, Oluremi; Senate President Ahmad Lawan; and former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, among others, attended the campaign.

In Delta’s 2023 governorship election, Omo-Agege will face PDP governorship candidate Sheriff Oborevwori and other contenders.

DSP Omo-Agege Slams Senator Abaribe Over Comment PIA

The Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege has berated the Minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, for allegedly misleading Nigerians on the recently passed Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

Speaking during Plenary on Wednesday, Omo-Agege stated that Abaribe accused All Progressives Congress lawmakers of backing their parties position of 3% against the earlier agreed fees of 5% for host communities.

The lawmaker denied that APC members in the Senate met to decide to cut the initially agreed fees of 5% to 3%.

Omo-Agege said: “There are many communities in my district that are host communities based on the provisions in the PIA. There was never a time that I am aware that the caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a political party, here in the Senate and outside the party met and took a decision that the oil host communities in the Niger Delta be shortchanged by reducing the host communities development fees.from 5% to 3%.

“I have received several calls from my constituents since last night after the interview till now. A decision has been taken by the Senate and that bill has been passed into law with a caveat that those of us who are dissatisfied that opportunities will be given to us as we move on that we can come forward with an amendment.

“In line with that, Buhari recently came up with an amendment and time goes on, other amendments will also come up to cure some of these issues that we face.”

According to the DSP, some lawmakers in the APC and PDP are disappointed with Senator Abaribe’s statement.

Reacting, Senate President Ahmad Lawan asked Senators to always settle their differences among themselves instead of talking to the press.

He said: “DSP, and distinguish colleagues,the Minority leader is not here today.

“Let me make my comment on this. First of all, this Senate as far as I can remember didn’t vote along party lines, not even the 52 majority. The APC as a majority and even two of the PDP Senators voted along the line that appeared that carried the day.

“So as politicians, ours is to lobby; is to engage our colleagues and if there’s any issue that we feel strongly; an issue that will make life better to those that we represent, there is always another day.

“If you are not able to get what you want, there’s always another day. That we passed a bill doesn’t mean that another day, one cannot have his way. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President, has expressed that Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe, can remain as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker committee despite contrary positions.

The supreme court had in a split judgment on Wednesday, affirmed the election of Rotimi Akeredolu as Ondo governor.

Reacting to the ruling, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the dissenting judgment by three other justices in the seven-member panel vindicates their position that Akeredolu’s election is a nullity.

The opposition party stated that the judgment did not address the action of Buni, who is functioning as the caretaker chairman of the APC, which according to the PDP is against the provision of section 183 of the 1999 constitution (as amended).

Also reacting to the development, Minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo asked the party to immediately suspend the planned congress as it will be an exercise in futility.

Hushpuppi: ‘Buhari, APC Worsening Nigeria’s Integrity – PDP

He said this is to avoid legal battles since the competence of Buni to hold the position as chairman has been questioned by the supreme court.

However, Omo-Agege via a Facebook post on Thursday, stated that the apex court’s judgment is of no effect to the party’s caretaker committee.

Omo-Agege who is also a lawyer said: “Mischief makers for obviously nefarious intentions, resort to misinterpret the said judgment vis-a-vis the purport of section 183 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as it affects the APC congresses scheduled for Saturday.”

He said the above-stated section of the constitution “only bars a governor from holding executive positions like being a minister, or any other executive positions for which he shall be paid for”.

“It does not by any scintilla of imagination, render the appointment of governor Buni as APC caretaker committee chairman incompetent and will not in any way, affect the legality or competence of the APC scheduled congresses.

“The appeal was dismissed on the ground of competence or lack thereof for the non-joinder of a necessary party to the suit at the lower court,” Omo-Agege said.

“Even if the apex court had considered the provisions of Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution, the majority panel would still have dismissed the appeal.”

The Nigerian deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has shown support for the agitations of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and other Igbo groups clamouring for self determination.

Omo-Agege explained that the country has been unfair to them, adding that the South-East region is politically deprived in the number of seats allocated to it when compared to other regions.

“This country has been unfair to them. Nigeria began with three regions; the North, East, West and subsequently the Midwest. The Midwest region, known today as Delta and Edo states which became Bendel was the only region that was constitutionally created, others were by fiat. Ours was created as a result of referendum by the people.

Everybody should strive to correct those imperfections. I respect their right to agitate on behalf of their people. What we’ll not countenance is for them without consulting the Urhobo people to include Urhobos as part of their map for Biafra Republic. We’re never part of Republic of Biafra. We are not fighting the Igbo people. We respect their right to agigate.” he explained

Recently, a Biafran map was released by the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The map included Urhobo land as part of the states that will make up Biafra Republic.

Reacting to that, Senator Omo-Agege said: “We have started seeing maps being drawn up that include the Urhobo nation as part of Biafra Republic. The Urhobos will never be part of Biafra. We are not fighting with the Igbos; they have the right to agitate but the Urhobos will not be part of Biafra.

“The Urhobo people generally are Delta State residents who are located in Southern Nigeria and are sometimes mistaken as a sub-group of the Igbos. In simplified terms, they are an autonomous ethnic group.”
