In order to support Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for president, Onochie Osheokwu, the senior special assistant on youth development to Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, resigned from his employment and explained his decision.
Osheokwu revealed why he felt so strongly about the Obidient movement that he had to quit from his post in an interview with Newsmen.
He claimed that Obi has the ideal mindset to advance the nation.

The former assistant pointed out that Obi’s tenure as the governor of Anambra state has demonstrated that he is not just interested in playing politics but really cares about people.
He said, “Obi’s record in Anambra schools is still there. Every Nigerian knows what Anambra used to be before Obi became the governor. The education system was transformed from the 26th position to the first. Even after he left office, that record remains because the foundation has been fixed. I know some people argue that there was a strike during Obi’s time as governor but that was because people were opposed to his new approach. Once you come out with a new approach, people will resist you. That was what he got; but with time, the people, not the elite, saw that his intention was genuine and the people adjusted to it. Today, that record still stands.”
Speaking about the problems facing the nation, he bemoaned the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, which has put many students’ educations on hold.

He added that the strike has prevented him from attending any of the lectures required for his master’s degree.
“For eight months now, Nigerian students have been out of school, sitting at home. As someone like me, I gained admission into the University of Benin for my master’s degree after the (COVID-19) lockdown. To date, I have not attended any lectures because of (the lecturer’s) strike. It’s almost two years since I got the admission and I have not even attended a single lecture. The education system is in a bad shape”, he added.
Speaking on his relationship with Okowa, The Obidient stalwart said that while he appreciates the governor for the job that he has done as governor of Delta state, he believes that Obi will perform better on a national scale.
