Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and former presidential candidate, has reacted to Orire Agbaje’s appointment as a member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. Agbaje is a 400-level economics student at the University of Ibadan (UI).
President Bola Tinubu officially installed Agbaje and the other members of the Committee on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The Committee is led by tax and fiscal policy specialist Taiwo Oyedele.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Agbaje serves as the president of both the Nigerian Universities Tax Club and The Tax Club at the University of Ibadan (UI).
Bola Tinubu Inaugurates Presidential Committee On Tax Reforms
Sowore responded to Nigerians who are outraged over her nomination as a member of the Tax reforms committee because she is an undergraduate via a tweet on Wednesday.
In contrast to most of the politicians in charge of the country, many Nigerians now know that Agbaje is a student and are familiar with her school, course of study, and level, according to the human rights activist.
The majority of Nigerian senators, President Tinubu, and many of his newly appointed ministers, according to Sowore, don’t know the names of their institutions or the courses they studied.
He wrote: “Read somewhere this lady here with @officialABAT was appointed to a “Tax Committee”, and some are upset that an ordinary student was given an appointment, well, unlike so many Senators, even the “President” and recently so many of his (@officialABAT) ministers, we at least know this young lady is in school and we know her school, course of study and level as opposed to most of the politicians running Nigeria today, no one could truly tell you where they went to school. Most of them don’t have “level”.”
