To eliminate bottlenecks in Nigeria’s passport issue and collection process, the Federal Government has started reforms.
The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, was hosted by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo over the weekend in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo gave the assurance that the government would take steps to curtail identity theft in order to restore the pride and integrity of the Nigerian passport.
He claims that initiatives are being taken to reduce the number of inmates in Nigeria’s prisons by 40% through non-custodial measures.

He urged the EU to assist the continent in overcoming its myriad problems.
He said, “We have commenced the process to unbottle the bottlenecks in our international passport application and collection process. Today, we have made a huge progress. We are also working on ways to reduce identity theft. We want to make sure the green passport regains its pride and integrity.
“If we can solve crime and migration problems in Nigeria, Africa will be better for it.”
Isopi, for her part, promised cooperation from the EU through technological management of smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal migration.
