To celebrate Eid-ul-Adha this year, the Federal Government has designated Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, as public holidays.

On behalf of the Federal Government, the statement was made on Friday in Abuja by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

On this special occasion, the Minister congratulated the Muslim Ummah both at home and abroad.

FG Declares Dec 25, 28, Jan 1 Public Holidays

In addition to encouraging the Ummah to pray for harmony, prosperity, and the stability of our nation during this time, Tunji-Ojo advised them to continue imbibing the spirit of peace, kindness, and sacrifice that the Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him) personified.

“The Minister assured that the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians.

“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to our children”, the statement added.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an extra public holiday, extending the festivities of Eid-El-Fitr. Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, unveiled this decision through an official statement on Tuesday.

The announcement, disseminated via the ministry’s official communication platform, emphasizes the significance of acknowledging Eid-El-Fitr and offering citizens the opportunity to observe this religious occasion.

According to the statement, “The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr.” Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of a spiritually enriching month of fasting. He also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all.

Earlier reports had indicated that Saudi Arabia had not sighted the crescent of Shawwal, indicating that fasting would continue on Tuesday. Consequently, Eid-El-Fitr is slated to occur on Wednesday, April 10, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month.

We previously reported that the Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays to observe Eid-El-Fitr. Moreover, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), had declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH (Eid El Fitr Day) following reports that the moon had not been sighted anywhere in Nigeria.

Sultan Abubakar’s announcement came shortly after receiving the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee in Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee. The committee, in their report, confirmed that there had been no sightings of the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday, April 8, 2024, which marked the 30th day of Ramadan 1445AH.

Eid El Fitr, colloquially known as the holiday of breaking the fast, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting period of Ramadan. This additional public holiday offers Nigerians the chance to celebrate this joyous occasion with their families and communities.

The federal government, which is run by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared Wednesday, September 27, public holiday.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the government of the United States proclaimed the holiday to honour the Eil-ul- Maulid celebration, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

On behalf of the government, the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the vacation on Monday night.

Anambra State Govt Declares Tuesday As Public Holiday

The Minister thanked Muslims at home and abroad for attending this year’s event in a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade.

He urged Nigerians to emulate the deep spiritual values of love, patience, tolerance, and perseverance that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) embodied.

Tunji-Ojo exhorted young people to work hard and be kind to their neighbours, regardless of their colour, religion, or social background.

He encouraged them to work with President Bola Tinubu to create a progressive nation.

Monday has been designated a holiday by the federal government in honor of Workers’ Day.

Every year on May 1, people celebrate Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made on Friday by Shuaib Belgore, the ministry’s permanent secretary, on behalf of Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister.

Aregbesola praised employees for their tenacity, devotion, and sacrifice in making Nigeria an example of greatness to other countries.

Workers Day 2020: What Do We Miss? 

“There is dignity in labour. We need to have dedication and commitment to the work we do because it is vital to nation-building,” the minister said.

“The end of work is productivity. It is productivity that leads to satisfactory provision of goods and services and wealth creation. It is therefore the path to national and individual prosperity.”

In keeping with the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, he advised workers to prioritize production and raise the bar for their profession.

Aregbesola praised security forces for their accomplishments in the fight against crime nationwide and urged them to persevere in their mission to completely eradicate terrorism.

To commemorate Eid-ul-Maulud, the federal government, led by Muhammadu Buhari, has declared Monday, October 10 a public holiday.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Eid-ul-Maulud is observed to remember the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

On behalf of the Buhari administration, Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola declared Monday a national holiday.

Aregbesola praised all Muslims for being present for the event this year in a statement released on Thursday, October 6, 2022, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore.

The statement read in part: “Ogbeni Aregbesola enjoins Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to refrain from violence, lawlessness and other acts of criminality.

“As the indisputable leader of our race, we must demonstrate responsible leadership in Africa.”

He urged Nigerians to be security conscious, asking them to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agency and through the N-Alert application on Android and IOS.

Aregbesola added that “when you see something do N-Alert, as this would elicit prompt response from security agents.”

The Federal Government has declared Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th December 2021 and Monday, 3rd January 2022 as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day celebrations respectively.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore.

“Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, felicitated with Christians and all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations”, he said.

FG Declares Dec 25, 28, Jan 1 Public Holidays

Aregbesola enjoined Christians “to practise the doctrine of Christ, which includes but not limited to these – faith, hope and love.

“We must emulate the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on Humility, Service, Compassion, Patience, Peace and Righteousness, that His birth signifies. This will be the best way to portray Christ and celebrate his birth”, he added.

He emphasized that peace and security are two critical conditions for economic development and prosperity, urging Christians and Nigerians to make the best use of this festive period to pray for the total eradication of insecurity bedevilling our dear nation.

“Aregbesola also charged Nigerians not to be lulled into a false sense of security on COVID-19 pandemic but to note that it is increasingly assuming a very dangerous and harmful dimension with the emergence of a virulent variant, Omicron.

Looking Ahead Into 2021

“This calls for deliberate responsibility and discipline on the part of all”, the Minister added.

He urged everyone to observe all the stipulated non-pharmaceutical protocols and guidelines such as wearing of facemasks, frequent washing of hands with soap and water, using of hand sanitizers and avoidance of large groups.

“Also, he urges quick report to medical authorities of any respiratory illness observed in self and others before, during and after the Yuletide.

“Speaking further, the Minister said this Yuletide calls for spartan discipline in order to prevent the spread of the virus in our community and the nation as a whole. Aregbesola says “Moderately celebrate the festival without large groupings and observe all the protocols stipulated by medical authorities. Take it as a point of personal responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus”.

The Minister also assures that the Government has put in place effective measures for the security of lives and property and expects Nigerians to support the efforts of security agencies by providing useful information that will assist them in the performance of their duties.

“Aregbesola admonishes all citizens to remain focused and expresses confidence that the year 2022 would be a better year for us all. He wishes all Christians in particular a happy Christmas and all Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous New Year celebration”, the statement added.

He also called for a stop to all divisive tendencies across the country, urging all Nigerians and the youth, in particular, to embrace the virtues of hard work and peaceful disposition to fellow humans, irrespective of faith, ideology, social class and ethnicity.

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.

FG Declares June 12 As Public Holiday

 

The Federal Government has declared a public holiday to celebrate June 12 which has now been accepted annually as Democracy Day.

In line with the enactment into law of June 12 annually as Democracy Day in Nigeria, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 12, 2019, as Public Holiday to commemorate the maiden National Democracy Day.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Barr. Georgina Ekeoma Ehuriah, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government congratulated all Nigerians at home and abroad for the entrenchment of democratic rule in the country.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director (Press & Public Relations), Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga, the Permanent Secretary called on Nigerians to continue to cherish the sacrifice made by heroes of democracy, particularly those who lost their lives in the struggle for the actualization of Democratic Governance in Nigeria in order to make the country a better place for all.
She further called for the collaboration and cooperation of all Nigerians with the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari towards achieving our collective aspiration for the unity, peace and socio-economic develo of Nigeria and wished all Nigerians at home and abroad a happy Democracy Day Celebration.

NIGERIA STATES ELECTIONS: GOVT SPEAKS ON RUMOURED FRIDAY’S PUBLIC HOLIDAY

 

The Lagos State Government has said there is no public holiday on Friday, March 8, advising all civil servants to be at their various duty posts.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan, made the disclosure in a statement in Lagos.

Bamigbetan decried reports currently circulating on social media platforms suggesting that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode had declared Friday as Public holiday to enable residents prepare for the March 9 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

He restated that all public and private schools in the state were expected to proceed on the 2nd mid-term break on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 March, as earlier announced by the state Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule.

According to him, all public and private schools will resume academic activities on Monday, March 11, in accordance with the revised school calendar for the 2018/2019 academic year.
