The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed sorrow over the passing of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a member of its National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT).

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said in a statement on Monday that the party was grieved by the passing of the statesman and media mogul at the age of 71.

Dokpesi, according to Ologunagba, was a devoted and courageous patriot as well as a devoted party member who was unwavering in his selfless efforts to the unity, stability, and advancement of the party and the country as a whole.

Dokpesi’s passing is, according to the party spokesman, a tremendous national loss and a serious setback for the PDP family.

The statement reads: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family is devastated by the death of one of its leading lights, member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC), media mogul, Statesman and Patriarch of the Dokpesi family, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Anthony Dokpesi (Ezomo of Weppa-Wanno Kingdom).

“High Chief Dokpesi was an exceptionally committed and courageous nationalist, an insightful and loyal Partyman; brilliant and resourceful entrepreneur who was steadfast in his selfless contributions towards the unity, stability and development of our great Party and the nation at large.

“As a patriotic Nigerian, High Chief Dokpesi deployed his media empire of Africa Independent Television (AIT) Ray Power FM and Faaji FM to champion the course of national development, promoted greater and affordable access to information across the country, stimulated good governance, enhanced economic growth and development in all critical sectors and opened our nation to international limelight and opportunities.

The late Chief Raymond Aleogho Anthony Dokpesi’s son, Raymond Dokpesi Jr., has issued a statement announcing his father’s passing.

The message claims that Dokpesi passed away today (Monday).

We regret to inform you of the demise of High Chief Raymond Aleogho Anthony Dokpesi (Ezomo of Weppa-Wanno Kingdom), who died away on May 29, 2023, with heavy hearts and deep sorrow.

“High Chief Dokpesi was adored by his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. All those who knew him will genuinely miss him.

“High Chief Dokpesi was also a respected and accomplished businessman, a pioneer in the media industry, and a philanthropist who dedicated his life to the service of his country and his community. His legacy will live on through the impact he made on the lives of many.”

The statement signed by Raymond Dokpesi (JNR), noted that the Dokpesi family is “grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

“We ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of our patriarch. We also ask for privacy during this time as we grieve together as a family.”
The statement said the family will release further details on the funeral arrangements in due course.

Raymond Dokpesi, a leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the creator of DAAR Communications Ltd, has passed away.

The media tycoon reportedly passed away at age 71 in an Abuja hospital.

A family member verified to The Whistler that Dokpesi, a supporter of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, had passed away.

The unnamed family source claims that Dokpesi has been taking care of his health ever since having a stroke immediately after the last Ramadan fast.

According to the family source, Dokpesi was eventually started on occupational therapy to enhance his everyday activities through gym workouts.

According to the source, Dokpesi was electrocuted while performing one of his regular gym workouts, which caused a stroke and ultimately led to his death.

His family is anticipated to issue a statement soon announcing his passing.

Remember that after receiving a COVID-19 diagnosis, Raymond Dokpesi and his family were admitted to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in 2020. They did, however, live through the illness.

Dokpesi served as the Deputy Director-General of Technical and Systems for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council and launched Raypower FM and African Independent Television (AIT).

High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of DAAR Communications Plc, has been freed following a “event” that caused him to be delayed at the London Heathrow airport on January 8, 2022.

This information was included in a statement that the DAAR Communications management provided to newsmen on Monday morning.

Giving detail of the incident, the statement read, “Dokpesi arrived via Frankfurt from Abuja on a Lufthansa airlines flight and was invited off the plane, before other passengers were disembarked.

“Dokpesi was delayed at the airport for some hours before his passport was stamped and he was cleared by British Immigration officials for entry into the country.

“His visit to the United Kingdom is not unconnected to the invitation of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar by the British government to share perspectives on issues around the 2023 presidential elections.

“The media founder is the Deputy Director-General, Technical & Systems of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.

“Chief Dokpesi wishes to thank all for their outpour of love, prayers and support following the news of the incident and to reassure that he is hale and hearty.”

The incident that caused his delay, however, was not extensively described in the statement.

This occurs not long after Dokpesi allegedly was detained at the London airport.

Dokpesi was held at Heathrow Airport, according to the website The Whistler.

Newsmen had contacted the Metropolitan Police for remarks in the wake of the news.

The Met police had not responded to Newsmen’s queries as of the time the report was filed.

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of Daar Communications and a PDP leader, is working for the governing All Progressives Congress, APC.

Wike announced this on Thursday in response to reports that he and other PDP governors were in Europe deciding on the party’s presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2023 general elections.

The Governor said that Raymond Dokpesi spread the allegation, claiming that his goal was to destabilize the governors in order to make room for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He lamented why some members of the opposition party would create division among the governors, saying the party is being rebuilt to take over power in 2023.

“I don’t understand where Raymond Dokpesi gets this information, this rumour that governors travelled to Europe to decide who will be the presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate of PDP. I wonder why governors will travel to Europe to take such a decision.”

The leader of the technical committee for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has solicited support for a one-term presidency for Atiku Abubakar.

He said if Atiku is elected for a single term of four years, it will pave way for the South-East to produce the president in 2027.

Dokpesi, who spoke in Umuahia the Abia State capital on Monday, maintained that Atiku, who hails from the North-East Geo-political zone, was the right person to wrestle power from the All Progressive Congress-led Federal Government.

He was at the state Secretariat of the People Democratic Party for consultations with the party leaders in the state.

Dokpesi revealed that the PDP zoning arrangement was not honoured during the 2015 presidential election. Consequently, the party went into the election with a divided house which it lost.

He argued that the PDP has to give the North another chance to complete its fours years in the presidency in order to wrestle power from the APC in 2023.

He assured that the PDP will zone the presidency to the South-East and ensure that the zone produces the president in 2027.

He said, “Our party believes in rotation of the office of president between the North and South for two-term of eight years.

“That was why former President Olusegun Obasanjo handed over to Late Umaru Ya’Adua, but after his death, former president Goodluck Jonathan took over and completed his first term.

“Jonathan, also ask for another four years which was given to him, but when he started asking for another term in 2015, the North felt it was against the zoning agreement of the party.

“So we went into the election with a divided house and we lost. That is why we have reasoned that for us to wrestle power from APC, we need a strong presidential candidate from the North.

“Since it is believed that the North-East and South-East are the two geo-political zones that have not produced a president. We felt that Atiku, coming from the North-East, is a strong candidate for the job.”

The Chairman Emeritus of DAAR Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has highlighted some reasons why former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should be trusted with the leadership of the country come 2023.

Anaedoonline.ng reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain while canvasing support for the Adamawa State-born politician during a courtesy visit to Forum’s secretariat, in Abuja, on Tuesday said that their support for the ex-VP’s presidential ambition was borne out of his laudable achievements.

Dokpesi said that Abubakar deserves the seat of power considering his achievements particularly in the areas of governance, youth empowerment as well as ethnic and religious tolerance, among others.

He also told the Forum that a vote of confidence has been passed in Atiku, stressing that Nigerians want him to contest for president in 2023.

Dokpesi said: “The challenges we are facing today as a country are complicated. The hope of the younger generation is dashed. Our hospitals are rather described as graveyards right now. Our schools are closed and we have over 14 million children out of school.

“Today, you hear agitations for the dismemberment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Those agitations are coming from all sections of the country. The economy, I dare also say, is in shambles right now.

“All these put together are created by the type of leadership we have in the country. They are a result of how we have organized and managed ourselves. They were not made by God

“Therefore, looking at the challenges that we have, we conducted some polls across the nation, bearing in mind the circumstances that we are experiencing in the country.”

“We asked Nigerians: How do we get out of this quagmire? For me, Nigeria must remain united. There are no insurmountable problems, and cannot be resolved.

“So, if we want to resolve the matter, I am going to call on this Forum to, in the interest of this country and the generations yet unborn to make the necessary sacrifice and view the situation dispassionately and not based on sentiments.

“We have set out the criteria, and have identified the issues, and said that the kind of leadership we need in this country must be a courageous, fair, tested and proven leadership with cognate experience in the management of the affairs of the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that the person that has the quality to unite Nigeria at this point in time is Waziri Atiku Abubakar.

“We must put a square peg in a square hole. We must not allow some people who want to disintegrate this country to succeed,” he said.

The media mogul maintained that he was supporting a northern presidency in the 2023 elections because they had been marginalised with the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua in 2010.

Dokpesi argued that it will not be fair and just should power return to the South in 2023, even though the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari would have done eight years.

According to him, his support for the northern presidency was in line with the PDP agreement during the party’s convention in 2006.

He said, “2023 is still the turn of the North based on the PDP agreement and calculation. The records of the PDP are there. Some people said why should we bring a Fulani man again, and I said have we not been living with Fulani people? I was brought up by a Fulani man, Bamanga Tukur.

The Chairman of DAAR Communications and stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Raymond Dokpesi has alerted Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress, APC, may not willingly surrender power like the then President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015 despite the cries by Nigerians for change ahead of the 2023 elections.

He urged Nigerians to be prepared to wrestle power from the ruling party by going back to the drawing board and uniting behind “a competent leader that is capable of dealing with the security challenge of this country, a leader who is not a religious bigot.”

Chief Dokpesi who Monday led a team of supporters of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to Benue state on consultation with PDP leaders in the state to drum support for the former Vive President, lamented that Nigerians had never been so divided along ethnic and religious lines.

He said: “there is a lot of division on ethno-religious basis. Nigeria has witnessed so much insecurity and Benue has had its own fair share of it with marauders invading homes, attacking and killing people.

“There is virtually no family that has not been touched by the mayhem of these invaders in Benue. The economy of the country has also been at its lowest ebb. In fact, Nigeria is now being described as the poverty headquarters of the World.

“Our country has certified all the requirements of a failed state. The APC federal government has failed woefully in protecting the country and the economy is in shambles.

“Our youths are unemployed. When the APC government was preaching change, a lot of our youths joined the mantra and felt they meant well but we didn’t ask what kind of change they were promising us. But some of us knew that they do not have the capacity to rule this country. We knew they would crash the nation’s economy.

“Now as 2023 is fast approaching, we cannot afford to continue like this. The survey we carried clearly showed that Nigerians are looking forward to the PDP to wrestle power from the APC.

“Despite the cries of Nigerians, it is very clear that the APC will not surrender power easily like the President Jonathan did in 2015. Hence we must go back to the drawing board because we need a leader that will be able to take this country out of the woods like Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.”

Responding, Benue state Chairman of the PDP, Sir. John Ngbede said it was important that the party fielded the right and acceptable candidate in 2023 to enable it wrest power from the APC.

Sir Ngbede who noted the communication gap between the former Vice President and the people of Benue state particularly during herdsmen crisis acknowledged the apology of the delegation describing Alhaji Abubakar as a Benue son and a man of the people who possess the qualities needed in a leader.

Others who spoke on behalf of the three senatorial zones of the state and the women, including Messrs David Amor, Laha Zever, Moses Ajima and Mrs. Hannatu Ullam, lamented the massive underaged votings in parts of the North during the 2019 general elections. They urged the team and the entire PDP to ensure vigilance in the 2023 elections in order to protect and safeguard the votes of Nigerians.

Ohanaeze Blasts Dokpesi Over Comment On 2023 Presidency

Chairman emeritus of Daar Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, has come under attack for claiming that the South-East cannot win the 2023 presidential election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Anaedoonline.ng recalls that in a recent interview, Dokpesi had said that the PDP cannot win the 2023 Presidency if its presidential candidate comes from the South East.

According to the PDP Board of Trustees member, only a Northern candidate can win the forthcoming presidential election for the main opposition party.

He added that there is no candidate from the Southeast and the South in general that will be able to win the top seat in the country for the PDP.

Reacting to Dokpesi’s comments, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, asked the PDP chieftain to keep his opinions to himself.

In a statement on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze expressed disappointment at Dokpesi for canvassing for a Northerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The group accused Dokpesi of being loyal to the North, claiming that “northerners paid Dokpesi’s school fees and his allegiance is to the region.”

Ohanaeze, however, said it was a surprise that Dokpesi supports the north yet canvass for Tinubu because they are childhood friends.

The statement reads: “We sympathise with our southern son, Chief Dokpesi because he started as the personal assistant to Alhaji Bamaga Tukur at the Nigerian Ports Authority.

“Dokpesi also served under Alhaji Umaru Dikko and General Garba Wushishi. Records reveal that Alh. Bamanga Tukur paid his fees from secondary school to postgraduate level. To that extent, he owes allegiance to his benefactors and feels no compunction to profile the entire south as an electoral liability.

“One can easily understand the psychological ambivalence in the Dokpesi persona. On the other hand, there is no reason for the condescension and disdain he handed over to the entire South.

“Dokpesi’s assumptions are unreflective, weird and unworthy. Any person who loves Nigeria should be an advocate of power rotation especially between the north and the south; and those our sons and daughters who lay claim to leadership should not, under any guise, give the impression that the south is a lame-duck, an electoral liability; and therefore must depend on the north to define the political trajectory of Nigeria.

Appeal Court Frees Dokpesi From Corruption Allegations

“We urged Dokpesi to allow justice and fairness to guide his dealings and choices, even as the group reminded the business mogul to be mindful of the kind of epitaph that he wishes to be remembered for.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide also commended the 17 Southern Governors for insisting that power should shift to the south in 2023.”

The media mogul made the clarification in a statement to newsmen on Monday.

According to the Edo State-born politician, he prefers to remain a committed party man.

The statement said: “My attention has been drawn to various media reports linking me to having an interest in contesting for the position of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled to hold in October 2021.

“The reports have been widely published in a number of national dailies and circulated in both online and hard copy editions.

“I wish to categorically state that I have no interest whatsoever in the position of National Chairman of the PDP or any other national office in the party.

“While remaining a committed party man, I cannot and will not risk a dent on my integrity, having earlier made my stance clear.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard the report as untrue.”

Appeal Court Frees Dokpesi From Corruption Allegations

Anaedoonline.ng reports that the current national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, had last week survived serious attempts to oust him as the party chairman.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who led those attempting to remove him accused the chairman of failing to make the party a strong force.

In order to douse the tension gradually engulfing the PDP, the BOT and governors of the party had fixed its national convention for October to elect new leadership.
